We have been to Sidari a couple of times when the kids were younger. Last time when we went the prices had hiked up in Greece and so we went elsewhere. Really would like to go back now though but with three teenagers in tow and having to book in the school hols I am worried I will over stretch my budget. Can you tell me wht it would cost for a large beer/main meal/ice cream just so I have a vague idea.
Thanks
Michelle
We went back to COrfu last May (having visited before around 15 years ago). The prices were considerably more this time (comparing both times with UlK. prices). In Kassiopi we paid on average 2.5 - 3 euros for a pint of lager and about 4 euros for a spirit. Snacks such as greek salads or a pizza were about 3 euros and the main meals obviously varied depending on what was ordered.
Hubby and I stayed self catering for a week and spent roughly 500 pounds. That was for all drinks and meals (didn't eat in at all). We also didn't pay out for any souvenirs or trips, except for the boat to Corfu town and back. I think the prices are comparable to most of the Greek resorts now and there are no more Greek cheap places to go unfortunately. All the same, I wouldn't call it an expensive destination.
We really love Greece and will definitely be going again soon. All the best
Thanks for the info
Me and my boyfrirend have just come back from a week and our meals worked out at around 30-35euros, with a starter and the odd desert.
We got back from Lefkas on Sunday. We have visited lots of islands and the mainland and usually pay about 30 euros for two main courses ,two deserts and half a litre of the house wine.Cheaper if you have greek dishes instead of the usual chicken or chops etc.Mythos was 2.50 for a large one.
Got back from Roda on Monday. A meal for two of us came to 20 - 25 Euros including a glass of wine, starters & main.
'Post Euro' we went started going to Greece again & noticed prices were higher than before but we went to Kefalonia then, the last two years we have been to Corfu and usually for the 4 of us, starters & main meal with say 2 drinks each cost us about £35 - £40, now we cannot get a meal like that at home! So i don't think it's too bad in Corfu.
I agree with Bluechairs. We returned to Corfu this year for the first time in three years and were pleasantly surprised to see that prices had dropped since our last visit there. It is definitely cheaper than Rhodes where we were last year. It is much better value for money that back here in the UK. As a family of four we found that we were getting through about £70 per day on three meals, drinks, ice creams, treats etc
Oh Magster, we may go to Rhodes next year, think better stay with Corfu! can at least afford a Mythos & and Icecream everyday then! lol
Bluechairs, Rhodes is a lovely but very different island to Corfu but I wouldn't let the prices put you off! We notice the difference because there are four of us and so what would only be a 2 euro increase say for a couple, doubles and soon becomes quite noticeable. Plus there are cheap but good places to eat and drink if you are prepared to look for them.
blimey Shirley - £500 for a week for 2 on meals and drink - steak and champagne every night?
I WANT to go back to Corfu & my other half is insisting we try somewhere different, he may change his mind if I tell him Rhodes is expensive! lol
Thing is My sis and hubby usually holiday with us- they seem to do the same things as well, but manage to get through about £1200-£1300
How much do you spend then Kev? and what's the secret?
Shirley, we usually do the same as you, would like to know too how it can be done cheaper!
can't really remeber what we spent last year, but don't think it came to that much, I was also comparing it with Magstars coments above...
"As a family of four we found that we were getting through about £70 per day on three meals, drinks, ice creams, treats etc"
Breakfast, pastries, cheese rolls etc fresh baked at the bakery, less than £5 including tomatoes and cucumber bought from the supermarket. We also stock up on yogurts, cheeses, soft drinks, sweeties for the children from the supermarket every three or four days. Usual cost about £15. Using your own soft drinks bought from a supermarket is the big saving in any holiday resort.
In the evening we share starters, meze style, have a decent Greek main meal each and then the children usually have an ice cream bought from a shop (another big saving), bottle of wine and soft drinks for the children. Prices varied in Kassiopi but on average we paid around £30 to £35. We don't tend to do bars.
And that is how we did Corfu on about £70 per day. I avoid touristy type restaurants like the plague and tend to go for the quiet places tucked into side streets. Eat where the Greeks do and you tend to eat cheaper and no complaints about the food either!
Of course any outings are extra.
Yes I can see how you manage on that amount of money. When our 2 sons used to holiday with us we used to be more frugal. Using supermarket and looking for cheaper places to eat. Now that it's just me and hubby we tend not to be too choosy, although we wouldn't deliberately seek out "expensive" restaurants. We tend to eat lunch by the pool so we pay whatever prices they charge (within reason). We do sometimes pay a little more for an evening meal if the setting is nice but generally stick with average priced restaurants. Also, as there are no children with us we call in a couple of bars before heading home by around 11.30-12.00.
I'm not sure that I look forward to the day Shirley, when we can afford to treat ourselves a little bit more luxuriously....my babes will not be babes anymore! I'll not wish it all away it's already going far too quickly! A late night out once in a while would be nice though.....
internet use than buying her icecreams! lol
Magster thats happening to us next year, just my son coming with us, eldest daughter wants to do her own thing, we understand this but we'll miss her soo much, 1st ever hols without her in 17 yrs! it cost us more this year in Acharavi though for
hi Magster! When my kids were small I felt exactly the same as you - I'd have loved them to be small forever - however times change and so do holidays. I take my grandchildren away for at least one weekend a year and it's fantastic. I see them at least twice a week all year round. Dare I say it - I also look forward to a child free fortnight once a year, more often than not with my sister Shirley H. I never thought that I'd feel like that but I do. Life moves on and you have to move with it or stagnate. This year I've taken my grandchildren to Bristol to visit the zoo and also to the West Midlands for 4 days to go to the safari park. We had a great time. We also went as a group of 6 adults to Mexico and had a fantastic holiday. My next birthday is the big 50 (sh) and I honestly feel as though I've got the best of both worlds.
