Can answer some questions.

Cigarettes eg Benson and Hedges are currently €34 for 200 but shortly to rise to€36 (tax increase). Superkings were €32 yesterday but again going up soon. Local brands are around €28 - €30.

You cannot buy cigarettes in the larger supermarkets but they are on sale in most off-licences bars, cafes and corner shops. Prices are the same.

Price of an English breakfast tends to be around €4 to 5 but some places don't include coffee/tea in the price! Meal prices are generally about 2/3rd of the UK equivalent. You can often get the 'dish of the day' for €5 or €6.

Beer in tourist bars is a bit less than UK, wine a lot less. In my local establishment I pay €2.50 for just less than a pint.

Hope that helps.

At the risk of being :swear for self promotion, at my place it's 2 euros for a full pint.

I think you could only be :swear for self-promotion if you had mentioned that your place is Floyds Bar, Algarveaddick - which you didn't, did you?

Hi Dave,

If you walk along westwards from Modelo, past the Brisa Sol, and turn left beyond the Camara, you'll be on the road leading down to the Old Town (Rua das Telecomunicacoes). Take the second right (I think) and you'll see Floyds Bar up the hill to the right (on the left hand side of the road). Look at this map, and it's right under the second "R" in Cerro Branco. If you click on Albufeira City Council at the bottom of the map you'll see where that is, and the Brisa Sol.

We've only had a drink there but I'm sure there are many on this forum who will answer the rest of your question! They do have a Pub Quiz twice a week, I think, which we always mean to go to but have never yet managed it!

Oh yes, you will be guaranteed a great welcome in spite of your advancing years! :glynis

Hi Real Holiday Maker,

Roseweb's directions are excellent, but we are first right as you turn into Rua das Telecomunicacoes.

Only do sarnies and toasties, but there are several excellent restaurants spitting distance away. We don't have live entertainment - too small, and too many others doing the same thing - but we play background music (as opposed to blaring music  ) and have a quiz on a Saturday and Wednesday night. If you want a nice chat, a cheap beer and comfortable surroundings, we are the bar for you.

All ages are welcome, we have regular return visitors ranging in age from early twenties to late eighties, and a few ex-pats and locals always happy to have a chat and dish out some free advice.

Look forward to meeting you.

Hi Dave,
I can recommend Floyd's from, shall we say,a more mature drinker's point of view.Popped in there the Christmas before last after having gleaned loads of advice from Perry on the forum and was welcomed like an old friend !The bar is cosy and comfortable and the regulars are friendly and an unbelievable source of local information.
Well worth a visit (or eight  )

Does anyone know the average price for 200 cigarettes etc and are only the tobacconists allowed to sell cigarettes like they do in spain, or can you still buy the cigarettes in supermarkets

Ciggies are roughly the same price as Spain and you can get your British brands etc from the tobacconists.

Regarding food we didn't stay in the strip area but we did drive around the Algarve quite a lot and we found the food to be of really good quality and of good value.

The more distant you drive from the resort the cheaper it gets my local just short of a pint 50cents:-)

You open Wednesday night Perry?
There may be 6 of us who want a drink or 10, and to watch the footy.
Although sadly we'll have to bring along two Scotsman. One a Rangers supporter and one supports Montrose.
