Hi - we have a villa booked in Villa Martin for the first week of August - 4 adults and one 3 year old, its about 5 years since we last did a Villa hol (usually go all inclusive) so i'm a bit out of touch on cost of living.
Does any one have any ideas on cost of bbq foods / general stuff beer / wine / ceral / bread / salad stuff / bottled water etc and maybe a ball park figure of how much spending to take....
if any one can give any advice on this and also the cost of eating out in this area that would be fab? Our plans are to bbq most night but i think we will try to eat out at least once or twice....
many thanks
msc
As long as you buy what the locals buy the food in the supermarkets is much cheaper than here, same goes for the drinks. If your party insist on having Kellogs Coco-pops or some other UK branded product then the supermarkets will have them but you'll find them a bit dear.
Bread and milk is more expensive here than in the UK....so I'm told. But wine can be got at 45 cents a bottle upwards. Beer is cheap as well, about 20 cents a can (the cheapest I have ever found was 6 cents!). The rest of the stuff you mention is around 2/3rds of the price that you would normally pay. Bottled water is about one euro for a big one.
Even though I have mentioned 2 supermarkets, the best value can be had in any Mercadona. Your closest one will be on the road between Villamartin and Campoamor Golf Course. Head down to El Limonar school and turn left.....keep on this road and you will come to it.
Eating out prices depend entirely on where you go.....Villamartin is expensive by Spanish standards.....head inland or away from the Orihuela Costa for better prices. 15 Euro a head is plenty for an evening meal....up to 8 euro for a menu del dia.
Can't help with how much money to bring.....that would depend on how greedy you are!
Oly Daze - do you have any recommendations of somewhere good to eat out? Somewhere child friendly but not a typical 'english food tourist haunt' maybe some 'real' tapas or similar???
Thanks
The advice that you have been given about 'buying what the locals buy' is good sense, and when it comes to tapas I would advise to 'eat where the Guardia Civil eat', 'cos they know about these things!
The bar that has the largest selection of fresh tapas, and is also frequented by the local plod is Magani's in Torrelamata.....Sensible measures and prices of drinks too. 50 meters away is a proper 'sit down' restaurant called Federico's with excellent grub, lots of it and very reasonable prices.
So as not to bore readers of this thread I shall send you directions to these places, and a good breakfast restaurant (3:50 Euro) by personal message.
