Creating Movies with Windows Movie Maker

Here's a quick guide to creating movies with windows Movie Maker...

Click Start > All programs > Windows Movie Maker.....

Drag your movie file from your folder onto Windows Movie Maker....

Now drag the movie file onto the timeline at the bottom of the window:

Press play (1) to begin the movie. The timeline marker will move along the timeline. Pause (1) the video where you wish to make an edit and click the Split button (2) this will split the video at the point in time o nthe timeline.....Press play (1) until you find the end of the part you want to remove...Click Pause (1)...click Split (2)...when you're happy right click the part of the movie to remove (3) and click delete (4).....The part of the movie marked will now be removed.

To add video transitions click View Video Transitions (1)...select the transition you'd like to use (2)...Drag the transition between the two clips (3)

When you're happy with your movie click File > Save Movie File...and select my computer then Next:

Choose a filename and a folder in which to store the new movie...
Click next...
On the next page click show more choices if it is visible....
Select the second option "Best fit to file size" and enter 15Mb if greater than 15 else leave as set.....

Click next and let your computer do its stuff....

Once the file is finished you can preview it and then upload it to HT.

This is just a very basic guide to the features of Windows Movie Maker, please play with the software to get a real feel for it ...any questions please feel free to post in this topic.

I took a video of my BF's parrot on my phone last night. I tried to upload it to my YT account but it failed because it's too long.

The file size is only 2.1mb but it's nearly 14 minutes long and YT only allow clips of 10 minutes or less.

I tried to edit it using WMM but when I try and drag the file from 'My Videos' to WMM it won't go, the black circle appears and it won't accept it. It's a 3gp file. I've got no other way of editing the clip to make it shorter.

Any idea why WMM won't take the clip? Is it because it's a 3gp file?

Hi vanlaywan, i managed to do this first time a few weeks ago, but now everytime i try to copy new movies the movie plays all juddery!! :whoops

they are avi's do i need to convert them to wmv??

Just noticed this thread, with regards to uploading videos to HT where exactly do we load them to? I know you dont like You Tube links in posts.

Hi Nick

Click on "Video Library" on the main page and "New Topic" then a window like this opens up.

In the top box (subject) write the name of your video, location and date.
So, for example, if I wanted to post a video of let's say the hotel Pez Espada in Torremolinos, it would look like this.
Hotel Pez Espada.Torremolinos. Costa del Sol "¦ October 2009.

Then in the big white box you type your message, something about the video or whatever.

In the box at the bottom (file comment) you type similar information to the subject"¦so I would shorten it to....
Hotel Pez Espada.Torremolinos,October 2009.

Then you click the browse button and find your file on your computer, click open and it should add the file into the box next to browse.

Then you click "add file" and another small window opens showing the upload"¦..wait until the file has been uploaded to HT.

Once the file has uploaded it automatically opens another window and it's the same one as you see when making an ordinary post in any of the forums.

Click on "preview" and your video should be in your post next to the message you wrote.
At this point you can see and play your uploaded video and make any corrections in your message, if you're satisfied with it, then click the submit button.

*Please take note that once you've hit the submit button any editing for spelling mistakes at any time later, will result in your video going to the great cyberspace god and will be lost. :cry

Once your video has successfully been uploaded, it will be vetted by the Admin/mods and then moved into the appropriate video album........just like the photo gallery operates .

It sounds complicated and a lot of faffing about, but after a few uploads, it's dead easy and takes seconds....let's face it, I can do it, so ?......no comment please :rofl
