Hi all, my partner and i are going to the Crown Plaza in Sharm on December 4th. Just want to say thanks for this site. Loads of very informative information. Made our minds up for us both. Anyone have any up to date info re Taxis from airport, Hotel, and dive clubs etc ? Thanks again. Stevie.

Hi. Has anyone who stayed here recently booked two twin rooms? If so, would just like to know, for rooms that were on the same booking were they automatically allocated as rooms next to each other, or did you have to make a special request for this?

Hi Stevie,
We stayed at the Crowne Plaza mid Oct this year. We had the normal coach transfer from airport, but we had no trouble getting a taxi from the hotel. We never used the taxis from the man in the reception, all we did was to start walking along the driveway, and before too long a taxi would appear, don't pay anymore than £30 Egyptian for one way to Naama Bay (£3.00).

The hotel has its own dive school, located by the fun pool at the bottom of the last lot of steps!!! overlooking the beach. It's called Divers International, all seemed very professional.

Hope this helps

Has anyone who has been recently got an update on the building work next to this hotel? Is it another hotel or more rooms for this one? Someone said earlier on in the thread that if its more rooms for this one then the facilities such as the pools and resturants might struggle to cope. Does it look like its going to be finished soon? Sorry for so many questions considering booking it and would like to have up to date info, if poss. :D

Hi,

Whilst we were there in Oct there was building work going on both sides of the hotel.
Don't know how fast they work, but from what we could see they both have a little way to go yet!

From the beach, the one on the right is a different hotel, but to the left nearly at the end of the driveway to the Crowne Plaza the road forks off and building work is definitely going on there. Sorry but have no idea whether the hotel is being extended.

The hotel is very nice though, and the noise did not disturb us at all.

Hi dm
:thanks for reply. Not certain if i'm going to book this hotel I really like the sound of it and it gets plenty of good reviews, definately on my shortlist. Not going till next Spring so perhaps the building work will have finished by then. I know everyone says its not a problem but one of my children has asthma so I don't want to go looking for trouble when i've got quite a few options.

Just got back last night. Amazing !!! Snorkelling was great off the jetty. Hotel was great. Building work either side of the hotel but no noise (depending on room location) Would reccomend Ras Mohammed, coulored canyon, for excursions. Airport when arriving was great, from getting off plane to getting visa and bags was less than 15 minutes. (timed it) Hotel, extra charge for sauna, steam room, and squash etc. Just a couple of problems with room but nothing major. Book your excursions in Namma Bay. A lot cheaper than the guys on the beach. 30 Egyptian pounds to Namma in taxi, but the hotels own Limo service at hotel was 32 Egyptian pounds. Food was fine, no upset tummies. An absolutely amazing time. Going back asap. Stevie

Anybody got any ideas of room numbers or location of rooms to ask for to ensure we would be away from the buliding work. ie by a specific pool or restaurant?
 Or would it just be simpler to ask for a room away from the building work, to be put on my booking form?

hi all, we are returning to the Crown Plaza in april after having a fab holiday last year. there was building work going on then but it was to the left side facing the sea, our room last year was to the right of the bar with the shisha pipes down a flight of steps (cant remember the number) but it was very quiet no noise our patio doors opened onto a garden facing the sea. i would suggest you stay the right hand side of the resort as last year this was the furthest away from the building work at the time.

doepsmc, when you going me and hubby (who is a diver) will be leaving birmingham 20 april booked with portland had a bargain. we stayed in this hotel last year and had a fab time.

we were in the crowne plaza last feb' with our 5 year old son. we are going again during the feb' half term so was wondering if they have any sort of kids club available. when we were there last there wasn't many kids although our son made good use of the 5-a side pitch near to the pool. what passed for entertainment during the day was a few russian prima donnas thinking they looked wonderful taking a yoga class / vollyball.
i'd be interested to hear from any families who went with kids during the summer or autumn half term. also, as we stayed in a room on the right-hand side of the complex facing the sea, is this still reccommended with regards to less noise.
thanks

Hi Elaine
Sorry I didnt reply, lost sight of the thread as it had slipped onto another page. We are going on 17th April. Its really great to hear from someone whose had such a good time that they have re-booked for the following year.

Do you think I should ask for a room on the right hand side only things might have changed from last year and was the food and drink in the hotel expensive? In the (very few  ) 5 star hotels I've stayed in food and drink has always been a bit pricey but I'm not sure if I want to treck to Namma Bay all the time (got 2 Kids). Need to work out a budget. Only going for a week so I thought I might do alternate nights. Is that a good idea?

Off to read the snorkelling thread need to get some masks and stuff, I'm sure medot said the snorkelling off the reef by this hotel was great. :fish :fish :fish That will please the family. :D :D :D

Hi Doepsmc
We were at this hotel last August and it was brill, the food was ok but we did go to Naama some nights....My children are 15 & 11 so it was quite easy, the temp at night does chill down in the summer ..... 35 at midnight!
Doing the alternate night thing is good we did that, and we ate in our room, they do a great club sandwich..As for the snorkling buy your gear in Naama bay it is really cheap ( £6-8) but you must bartter hard!! The Hotel is on the Garden Reef one of the best dive site it gets full of divers every day.
A good tip is to ask reception for an extra key card then you can leave air-con on all day the room will be nice and chilled when you get back from a hard days sunbathing. Also buy your water by the box full in Naama bay, loads cheaper. If you need some ring the taxi guy at the gate and he will pick some up for you next time he goes in.
We have just booked to go to Taba Heights only because we want to go to Petra otherwise we would of gone back to Crowne Plaza with out a doubt!
Have a great time

Hi Stuart
Thanks for the reply, my children are young teens as well so I'm sure we will be OK going back and forth to Namma Bay. I will take the tips about water and getting the snorkelling gear there. I'm really looking forward to this as we have never been to the red-sea area before, and was hoping I had chosen a good hotel. Don't suppose you happen to have an email address for the hotel do you? I've put a special request on the booking about the rooms but what to email the hotel closer to the time as well.

Have a great time at Taba. :D

If you go to Trip advisor you might find the Telephone number and the E-mail.
You will love the Red sea, it is really nice so much better than Spain France etc.....and cheaper!
I do have some photos of the hotel

Hi Stuart
thanks for all your positive comments, they really do help when you have booked somewhere new, especially when you're the one responsible for making the choices. Are they in the photo gallery on here?

I was wondering as your kids are similar ages to mine, did you have 2 twin rooms and if so did they allocate them next to each other? From what I've read I think this is a large hotel spread over alot of grounds and I hope the rooms are close together. This is what I want to email them about so I'll try trip advisor. I asked the tour op to request this on the booking but obviously they won't guarantee it. It might depend on how full they are.
