we always use travellors cheques when in salou............some euros before leaving the uk, but find a slightly better rate when in spain...........the main word there being slight. What may be a safe cash machine one day might not be the next..........Last year we found an equal better rate to change our travellors cheques in our hotel...........that wasnt the norm for us in the past, but on that occassion in october last it was.............good rate of travellors cheques with marks spencer at the moment in northern ireland,

Hi. Going to Salou next week with the family. Usually go to Benidorm, and, if we change sterling for Euro's there, we get a much better rate. Heard that in Salou, it is different though ?
Can anyone tell me where I can find out if this is correct, and should I change my cash here, or there ?

Been offered £1 - €1.162 here but in Benidorm it is £1 - €1.195

You can see why I am asking

Thanks in advance for any help given

hi there bigalcymru,

having got your best rate for the euro, where ever you decide, i would advise you to scroll down the threads on this menu and read " Cheap Bus ".......having got the best rate, then it will go further having read that thread.

Ussually change money this way but cant remember what option you pick on the machine. It was something to do with pressing the yes or no button to buy in sterling or euros??? One of the options gave you a better rate than the other.
Also anyone know what rates youve been getting this way lately?
eg the the rate here(GB) today is 1.19euro to £1, what would be at machine in Salou with nationwide card.
Cheers

Iain ... if given the Sterling or Euro option for any transactions at ATMs, shops, hotels, etc., you must select Euros to gain the advantages of your Nationwide Flex Account.

hi mistygal ....best at the minute is 1.075 ....from thomascook...order on line collect from store....its been droping slow but sure ....I posted similar question....I wondering if its droppong due to big demand now main holiday season is coming up....wondered if rates would improve when we went last week in august/first in sept...as kids going back to school so less demand by our second week....decided to wait and get a bit to take out....then buy as needed when there....hoping the rate improves the further into our hols we get.....the more a thing is in demand the more expensive it is to buy....and the world, his wife and kids are looking for it now.....and students who can afford to holiday now exams finnished....tweetie

Thanks Reptar and Tweetie Pie. I have not gone holiday in Europe really since the euro came in. Last time was Salou in 2003, which was when cost abroad got similar to here. We then went more Cyprus and Egypt over last 8 years, to get more for our pound. Until Cyprus went Euro :(
But I have missed Salou so much and my kids will love it, as they were too young to remember it last time we visited. At least it is a holiday where you are busy on the go. The other ones have just been too lazy IMO :)
Any tips Tweetie on savings in any areas attraction tickets, meals out, bus fares, anything please please let me know :tup
Thanks guys :)

hi again...use the big supermarket the locals use in the old town...not far from the train station....get portadventura tickets on line from Attraction Tix.....3, 7, and 14 day tickets...save a lot doing this....Salou has changed since 2003....and not for the better....but still good for families who like beaches theme parks ect....tweetie

Hi Tweetie I think we have left it a bit late to book online PA from Attraction Tix. :( We are having had to wait for money to clear here. Any tips out in Salou where to get genuine PA tickets from? Oh Aquapolis also :tup

I have heard salou is not as nice anymore. :(

I will take your advice on the supermarket in the town. Thanks :)

hi mistygal.....its years since I went for a proper holiday to salou and when I used to go I pre booked my tickets through siesta coach holidays for 7 day tickets...they were great value....and last time I went I took my lad and his friend for 4days and booked thier tickets through atractiontix before we went... so dont really know the best place to buy them in salou its self....but there was a place on the main road where mcdonalds is that I knew of people going for them.....you need check out what they are charging on the gates and compere prices ...sometimes the parks have offers on ....if you buy before you go atleast you dont have to queue at the gates...

If you went to Salou in the old days you would say it wasnt as nice now....but if you are new to salou you would probably think it was just like most of the other resorts and say it was OK....the beach and front are lovely and because of portadventura and aquapolis there is no where I think better for taking children on holiday.....tweetie
