Barbj1 - If your cruise is anything like mine on the Opera then I'd advise using the credit card. The queues to settle bills for cash were horrific looking. I just signed my bill and handed it in, no problem. I did want to change some large euro notes for smaller ones on the last morning for tips but as all cash was being dealt with at the Pay Bill by Cash desk I didn't manage to (my cabin staff did quite well out of that!). From recollection you must deposit 150Euro upfront at check-in if you want to settle your bill by cash at the end, so you can imagine the possibilities for mayhem at check-out! There did seem to be more people trying to settle by cash than credit card at the time I went to settle-up which was very early on.

I believe the cash deposit is £150 (approx €220)!

Spoke to MSC today who said a computer problem was delaying the tickets but that they will be dispatched on the 6th or 7th of June and will be with us in good time. should I start getting confident yet or is there still time for the wheels to fall off. If all goes well myself and dean.village will be arriving at Heathrow Terminal 1 at 21.55 on Sunday evening and transferring to terminal 2 shortly thereafter. I suppose we will gravitate towards where the best facilities are at that time of night. I shall look out for you Lobbylud and anyone else who looks lost, we are two silver surfers from Auld Reekie.

Hi Ann

My MIL used here debit card on a cruise and it worked like a credit card, ie she didn't have to leave an additional deposit and the costs she incurred were debited to the card at the end of the cruise.

Hi Luci,
I too have used a debit card on a cruise but with Thomsons. According to MSC they only accept Mastercard and Visa credit cards, however perhaps they have changed since the brochures were printed! I think a telephone call to MSC might clear this up.

Hi Bangormaine - Dean.Village

Also spoke to Allison who assures me that the cruise package will arrive at R*** on Tuesday and then will be forwarded to to the 13/6 crew immediately. This is the confirmation of cabin number, details of cruise, etc.

Should arrive at home on Wednesday (or I expect Thursday depending on the postal service in your area).

The e.tickets already sent (Itinery) should match up.

See you at Heathrow.

Hi All

Re: debit cards on board - the literature we got before boarding stated no debit cards but me and many others had our debit cards swiped with no problems at all - it wasn't even mentioned. And no, we didn't have to leave a deposit.

Scarlet,
You are a star, thank you for that information, brilliant! Did you actually tell them it was a debit card or simply present it?

Perhaps it is OK if, like mine has, your debit card has the Visa sign?

They possibly mean no `hole in the wall` cards (electron/switch etc).

Just a thought.

Thank you Scarlet and Tony! I spoke to my CILs just now and apparently they don't accept Maestro but will take a card with Visa on it! That's me all sorted then and thanks for the help!
