We stayed at the Daquiri in August 06, just before it was refurbished...It is a lovely hotel then so I imagine it will be even lovelier since the refurbishment. :D

Hi Everyone has there own standards but we went december 2006 and it was truly awful, they had reopened it for xmas and the rooms are really bad, dated and scruffy. they closed it down again last may and it is now open again. The rooms are still being refurbished from what I have read on Trip advisor. I would e-mail and request a refurbished room at the very least. People either love this hotel or hate it. The canadians seem to but manly young ones who love the local Rum!! We moved to the sol which was not much better. I see you went to the el greco, that was one of our first all-inclusives about 10 years ago and that was positively luxurious in comparison!!! The beach was much better there. We went to cuba the xmas before to holiguin and had a superb holiday. The staff are nice as everyone says but the food was bland and poor quality and not up to an Iberostar standard. If going with firstchoice the rep luciano is still there and do not beleive a word that man says.We are not the only ones who were not happy on arrival at this hotel. the welcome meeting was full of unhappy guests. Sorry to be negative !!

Sorry I was meaning the beach at the hotel sol was better than the dacquiri not the El greco. The beach was the saving grace of the whole holiday!

There is actually a group web site dedicated to Ib Daiquiri - http://groups.msn.com/IberostarDaiquirigroup lots of reviews/info
We went a couple of years ago - its a nice place with a lovely beach - not really 4* - more like 3* - food was adequate, accomodation standards iffy.
Entertainers try very hard to involve people all day in events which is necessary as there isn't much else to do in Cayo Guillermo.

A hotels * ratings is based on what it offers not its standards as many think. The Daquiri offers many facilities, boasting pool bar, speciality resturarnts, spa, gym, 2 pools, etc this is what its rating is based on. I think it is a 4* based on that and I also think the standards are good...I have stayed 3,4 and 5* in the caribbean and think that the Daquiri is definately at the upper end of the scale compared to the 3* I stayed at. I never went hungry during my stay, I never went thirsty, I was entertained every night, and I got a lovely tan...isnt that what a holiday is all about...I would go with an open mind, read the reviews on here and on other review sites, weigh up the good against the bad. If you get there and you feel its not what you paid for, kick up a fuss and asked to be moved clearly stating that reason.

When we moved from the Playa Coco to the Daquiri the porters came to collect our luggage and asked if we were going home we said no we going to Daquiri and the both just said...beautiful hotel, perfect choice, much better, best hotel on Cayos. and it certainly was better than the Coco thats for sure!
