Hi Clairey, Kassiopi is roughly 25 minutes drive from Dassia.

Some lovely restaurants I'd recommend a little bit closer are (in ascending order of distance):

The Olive Press Nissaki (not to be confused with Nissaki Beach). on a terrace above the seashore with wonderful views across the bay to Corfu Town.

Agni - down a twisting road from the main coastal highway. Afni is a stunning little bay with three fantasic high-quality restaurants on the beach - Nikolas, Toulas and Agni Taverna. There are wonderful views across to the rugged Albanian mainland that almost looks within touching distance.

The Eucalyptus, Aghios Stefanos (the north-east Ag Stef - there's another on the north coast). Right on the beach alongside the little harbour. A lovely place to eat at night and watch the twinkling lights of my favourite Corfiot village.

Kerrasia Taverna, Kerrasia - where the road that leads you down to Aghios Stefanos ends. Kerassia Beach was featured on the front cover of the Rogh Guide to Corfu, and there's nothing else there. Tables are on a wodden terrace on the beach.

Sorry to nit-pick, but Dassia, Kassiopi and all the places I've mentioned are on the east coast. You only gets sunsets on the west coast. However you will get wonderful moonrises on the east, which are just as romantic. All the places I've listed have terrific food.

Enjoy.

Clairey - May is absolutely the best time of year to go to Corfu in my opinion. The weather's lovely, the island isn't too crowded with tourists and the spring flowers can be spectacular - try and get to Old Perithia, which is an old abandoned village in the mountains above Kassiopi. The flowers were breathtaking there last year.

We normally go to Corfu in May and October, but our first visit isn't going to be until June this year.

The places I've mentioned can all be reached by taxi. I'd guess Dassia to Agni would be about 20-30euros each way. Always check with the driver before you set off. They won't try to rip you off but you don't want to be in for a nasty shock.

If you want to go before sunset then Agni is probably best, but there are only the three tavernas and villas, so no nightlife to speak of.

Ag Stef has a couple of very friendly late-night bars, so you can make a proper evening of it. But it's still a laid-back village rather than a full-blown resort. Kassiopi has proper nightlife, but then again you can probably get that in Dassia (I've driven through Dassia loads of times but never stopped).

Horses for courses.

As for wonderful views - Corfu has a million of them.

For sunsets, many go to Pelekas beach on the West Coast (probably costs the same by taxi from Dassia as to Kassiopi). Not been there yet myself, but have had a lot of recomendations.

Hi Clairey

Have you tried http://www.agni.gr the most terrific website for Corfu with a webcam and actually run from Taverna Agni. There is also a good message board.

Cheers, Jean
