Father in law passed away in February and we are trying to get a refund for an Expedia trip he had booked for June. Flying with EasyJet and hotel in Barcelona. Contacted Expedia who told us to contact insurer (Allianz) who in turn initially asked 'what do you want us to do?" before apologising and saying we had to go through Expedia.
Expedia needless to say go back to insurer. They did contact the hotel so said they wouldn't refund as it was a no cancellation booking. They don't seem to make exceptions but will resell the room of course!
Who can we go to? Surely a death is an exceptional reason for a refund?
Any assistance greatly received!
Kenneth
Surely this is one for the insurance company! What reason are they giving for not assisting you?
Allianz, the insurer, said Expedia policies are normally refunded by Expedia directly.

Re hotel it wasn't a cancellation as such surely? I'd have thought it was totally different in so much as the whole holiday couldn't take place due to the circumstances, & this is where your insurance steps in?
How insensitive are these people!!!
I would suggest you contact the Insurance Ombudsman and ask for their advice/help. Details can be found here.
