Sorry, but she doesn't know what she is talking about I'm afraid. You must clear Immigration and customs at your first point of entry in the US, ie New York.

There will be several Immigration desks, some for US citizens and others for all other nationalities. You will have to queue for anything from 30 mins to an hour or more. Then you pick up your luggage, present it to Customs and either put in on a nearby belt or area for it to go on the next flight. Then you proceed to the gate for your next flight.

If you are held up and miss your flight they will just put you on the next one.

What about coming back the way, Vegas to New York then Edinburgh, i have 2 and 1/2 hours in New York, presumably i wont have to clear immigration in New York as i have come from Vegas, so can i check my luggage through to Edinburgh at Vegas and just go right to the departure gate for Edinburgh when i disembark at New York?
Reply
Yes your luggage with be checked straight through to Edinburgh on the return journey.

Remember to leave your luggage unlocked and carry all valuables in your hand luggage as the TSA have the right to search your luggage and if it is locked and they want to search it they will burst the locks if necessary.

This outfit Delta airlines is really beginning to get to me, after the recent queries i have posted regarding the short time i had to get my connecting flight to Vegas as Delta had changed my flight from Edinburgh to a later time (incidentally i am still waiting on them contacting me to even tell me it had changed) i was on their website last night and was shocked to discover my flight on March 9 from Edinburgh was no longer available.
I logged onto their website and entered my confirmation number only to discover they have changed me to the same flight 24 hours earlier (once again they have not contacted me and i have only found out this by chance) but they still have me on my original connecting flight to Vegas, so instead of panicking about if 2hrs is long enough i have went from one extrem to the other and now have 26hrs.
This is absolutely ridiculous and i am wondering what i can do?
I dont particulary want to go 24 hours earlier as its the day after my wedding, although if need be i will, i certainlt dont want 26 hrs in an airport, my accomadation is booked in Vegas(its a confirmed booking i cant change) so an extra night is going to cost me more money i dont have.
Is it there for likely i can enforce the airline to put me up in a hotel in New York for the night?

I would suggest checking their website to find suitable flights then calling them to have them changed.

I received a schedule change yesterday from American Airlines which put us on a flight 4 hours earlier than the original. I found another flight which was only one hour difference, called them up and they changed it no problem.

Further to Lucis message - you could tell them that you need to stay on dates as planned - booked with them as a "major scheduled carrier" and that they should now consider re-routing you.

This can be using BMI down to heathrow and connecting out of Heathrow.

I have no idea why they have canx your whole flight out of EDI.

I phoned up their UK office and they said they could either transfer me to another suitable flight or a full refund. I decided to take them up on the offer of a full refund as i have found better alternatives with other airlines.

Excellent. Glad it's worked out for you after the hassle.

Just a heads up that Delta have cancelled their Edinburgh-Jfk route as of 18th September this year I only found out by reading about it on another forum When I conteacted netflights that I had booked my flights through they did not know anything about it. DELTA have confirmed the cancellation and I managed to get a refund today. I have been able to rebook with BA via gatwick with good times but it has cost us over £700 more for the five of us so Delta are not in my good books

Note that Delta have recently changed their checked baggage allowance. You are now only allowed one checked bag up to 23kgs and the second checked bag will be charged at $50. More HERE

I have just had confirmation from Delta that as because I will be classed as an international traveller, I will be allowed two checked items of baggage on all of my flights which are Man/ATL, ATL/LAX Las Vegas/JFK and JFK/MAN.
