Hi,
Can anyone give me a ball park figure of how much a single dental implant would cost in Goa? My hubby has just been to see our local UK dentist and she quoted around £2000. I was thinking it would be better to wait until we go to Goa and get it done there.
Thanks

Gail i paid 800pds for two so i'd say around the 400pds mark this dentist was in margoa and not in the CCB strip it may be more expensive there.

Are you heading back 2012 ?
If you can't find the details of the dentist I can contact Steve through Facebook and get them. Ray's not that keen to spend his holiday in the dentist's chair either but for £1500 difference in price between here and Goa I'll have to convince him that it's the best option. lol
We definitely want to go back next year. Probably will stay in the same place if the price is ok and hopefully the same time as you and Dee. What are your dates?
All being well we'll see you then.

Back to teeth again (had one out 2 week ago, and still got a sore gum..) The 2 dentists I visited in Goa to see about my missing tooth, both stated I had 2 have my crowns out either side to have a good bridge built, around £250, so that's why I looked into an implant.
Hate dentists and hate the pain, so if Ray is going to have it done get the details of the place e-mail them and book him in within 2 days of arriving.
The one in Candolim, told me an implant would be the best, and the 1st thing they do is drill the bone, place in a screw thread and fit a temporary tooth. This then needs 6 months or more for the screw to settle into the bone, so you have no choice but to return to have the tooth fitted.
I still have a tooth on a plate, but hate wearing that so will live with the gap, just wish I saw that pool cue coming towards me..
Have fun !! Let us know your plans (don't think Jackie and Alan are coming - unless they are winding Dee up !)
I have 4 implants all done in Uk. You need to realise that after an extraction you should wait until it has healed before having an implant. I had umpteen visits to a specialist surgeon for mine over a period of about 8 months. This is not something that should be done done over a few days. Once the implant has been fitted in to the bone you then have to wait a few months before the crown can be fitted. I did look into having mine done abroad but felt I wanted to be able to revisit the surgeon if anything went wrong and there are things that can go wrong.
I have four done in the UK as well. Each one of mine has taken at least 8 visits. Maybe more if it has involved a tooth extraction, that needs to heal first.
After the titanium implant goes in it should really be inplace for a minimum of 8 weeks for ones own bone to grow round the the titanium.
The bone can reject the titanium and the whole thing can go wrong and needs to be redone, thats why in the UK they will not put the actually crown on to the implant for 8 weeks or so. During those 8 weeks you should have a couple of appoinment and an xrays to see how the implant is setting and check for infections. They make a small plate to wear to cover and protect the implant for those weeks. You also go back after the crown has been put on for a further check up to make sure it is OK.
I did ask my dentist how it worked when people have them done abroad and he said that they put the crown onto the implant more or less straight away which isn't advisable.
I can see why people do it and I am sure there are many succesful implants done abroad, I guess it's when things go wrong you need to worry.
The cost in the UK is a one off and will normally cover as many visits as you need.
Mine has had to put a few right from abroad that have gone wrong and then you will end up paying as much for that as having the whole procedure done here on top of the initial cost of having it done abroad.
He's reluctant to go for a bridge because it would mean crowning the adjacent healthy tooth.
Our dentist here said an implant should be fine. His gum has had time to heal so that won't be an issue.
Not so sure now about the Goan implant given the facts and the timing etc.
At the of the day it could turn out to be more trouble. I'll let him decide.
Phil, hopefully we'll be back to Candolim the same time as you and Dee. I will get back to you nearer the time.
Thanks again for the replies. Much appreciated.

I must have been lucky because i had 2 front implants done during my 2 weeks hol's i did state this though when i emailed the dentist i wanted it all done in that 2 week space, thank god nothing went wrong,i'm not sure i'd have another implant done though..
Even after the crown goes in your dentist will want you back. I wouldn't trust any dentist who tells you you can do all this properly during a holiday. To me- it wouldn't be worth the risk.
Many will be OK, with no worries. But if the implant doesn't 'take' the whole lot will just fall out and you will be back to square one.
I guess you pays your money and takes your choice, it will save loads of dosh having it done in certain countrys. However, I looked into having it done in the Algarve and the saving was minimal. Definately not enough for the risks involved & weighing in the costs of the flight & the 2 week holiday I wouldn't enjoy as I would be recovering from the stiches/bruising/anaestetic etc. It's not like you can just get on with your life 30 mins after it goes in, there is a recovery period. Some are easier than others, upper front teeth can be the most problematic, they have to drill into the sinuses.
If you get a good dentist they can recommend things. I have one implant at the back with two crowns on as both teeth were getting dodgy. That saves a fair bit.
Like i say i was lucky..I know it wont do for most people but i took the chance and it worked well i do heal pretty quickly..Mind you i did have to hold a hanky infront of my mouth when talking to people in goa i had like a gum shield put in place which was'nt good on the eye but it was to help heal the gums and protect the 5 stitches i had in place i did have quite a few trips back and forth to margoa to see the dentist which was 800 rps a time in a taxi most of my hol's was taken up with these implants well i've done it got the t-shirt best of luck to anyone who's thinking of having this done.Think about it long and hard..
yup- it was upper front I had done and it was painful and all I wanted to do was curl up in bed for a week! Wouldn't want to feel like that on holiday.
Me too with my upper one. It's only fair to warn folk that they need to be realistic, they will not be going on holiday for a fortnight, it's two weeks of treatment, so cost of the flights, hotel etc needs to be added to the cost of the implant. The attraction seems to be that you get a holiday as well, which I am not sure is the case. As said above think about it long and hard..
I don't think he would want to spend most of his holiday at the dentists having painful treatment. We didn't realise there was so much involved.
We need chill out time when we're on holiday, not pain and stress.
Thanks so much to everyone for all the information. Really appreciate it. It has certainly given us a lot to consider.

dentists often have info nights- might be worth seeing if there is one near you. Once you go you will have a better idea.
I had a plate upper front and that is why i choose to have a implant i couldnt cope with it i have a few crowns too so know all about that side of dental work and what it incurs but implants are more brutal i've never had any trouble with mine since the day i had them done glad its all over though and hope it dont come to having anymore..
It's just many people aren't quite aware of what is involved. It isn't anywhere as simple as having a tooth out or a filling. You also need to be able to take antibiotics immediatly after the titanimum implant part goes in to protect against infection. Good luck whatever your hubbie chooses Gail. It would be good if you could get to an info night.
Try Dr Fernandes over Newtons Supermarket entrance round the back.My partners son had 12 implants(full front top and bottom) and other work cost £4400.A single implantcosts between£200--£400 depending on type and quality.
