Myself and my friend are looking for where to go for 10-14 days between the backend of June and all July, so looking for some suggestions please.
We went to Kardamena a few years ago so would like to go somewhere different this time. Our criteria includes:
- things to do during the day (we do not plan on getting so drunk at night, that we'll be sleeping all day - we want to see some sights and get out.
- flight time: not much more than 4 hours (so, for Greece, whichever is closest to the UK and shortest flight journey)
- I like my dance music, and although my mate does too, he'd like there to be alternative music in clubs such as 70/80s, chart/pop - as well.
- cheap food/drink - as we plan on going Self Catering.
- 10 mins walk from main night life - not too close that you can hear it in accomodation, but isn't too far away either.
- closish to beach
I'll add more if/when needed, but from what you have read above, which places in Greece, would you recommend? We do want the night life to be lively, but also the chance to go somewhere quieter if we wish.
Many thanks in advance, Steve
As a more "tamed down" alternative I suggest Corfu town which has an abundance of tavernas/shops/nightlife although it attracts a variety of ages. It also has a nice little harbour where you can take a boat trip to a number of other resorts and beaches.
Zante is about the same flight time as Corfu. Another lovely island. Laganas is where the young and lively go here although I'd go to Argassi which has similar things on offer at a slightly slower pace.
hope this has been of some help!
Stalis on Crete is a good option. Lively resort but not wild and Malia is next door if you fancy a big night. Also got Hersonnissos on the other side of the resort for a change of scenery. Stalis has a good beach (plenty of waterports) and loads of bars and restaurants. Make sure your accomodation is not on the beach road and you should get a decent nights sleep. Theres loads of places where you can hire quads relatively cheaply to explore some of the island. We found loads of little villages, nice beaches and were able to spend days in other resorts such as Agios Nikalaos which has loads of things to see and do. There are excursions aswell like the jeep safari that takes you to remote parts of the island, gives you an insight into traditional greek life by visiting small villages that you otherwise wouldn't see. The flight took us just over 4hrs 15 minutes but its well worth it.
Plenty of places to eat & drink before you head to bar strip later on. This is all based in skiathos town.
From here you have easy access to the buses which take you all down through the island stopping at numerous beaches to have the choice from. Or hire a car/jeep and explore other beaches only accessable with private transport.
best of both worlds, lazy days or exploring days, plus options of boat trips to other islands and then a bustling night life to choose from as you wish.
I guess there are other islands just as nice, but I'm biased for Skiathos and sure you wouldnt be disappointed.
Stalis is fine for good beaches/restaurants/bars and you can head to Malia if you want to get drunk and party with kids OR head in other direction to Hersonissos which is our favourite place at night... lovely harbour, good atmosphere and quite a few decent clubs... saw Marco V/Joy Kitikonti out there 2 years ago... caters for the Dutch youngsters more than the Brits... depends what sort of music your after ??? (I'd actually stay in Hersonissos if it had better beaches)
Laganas - not been since 2003 and it was fine then. Nice mix of different music down main street, decent beach, ok food...make sure your accom is near beach.. main road runs inland from beach so apts that are 10 mins from noise at night can mean a 25 min walk to the beach!!
