We have sailed on the Destiny around the Canaries . We had a good time but got thrown about a bit with some rough sea. We had the chance of sailing the Carribean in March but have decided on the Sea Princess at a very good price.
Having said that - its horses for courses and depends on what your entertainment preferences are - OV had a lot of tribute acts - in one week there was the Madonna tribute act, the Kylie tribute act, the Tina Turner tribute act - got a bit tiring especially as they weren't all that good, and the one staff show they held was cringeworthy - whereas the Destiny has west end style shows every night of the week with alternative entertainment in the other lounges.
Both have a comedian each week but the OV opted to put there's into a small spin-off lounge that couldn't fit half the audience in (caused lots of bad feeling) and both have quizzes/game shows on as alternatives.
OV in its favour did have the once weekly outdoor acrobatic show and a (small) cinema, whilst Destiny has a couple of outdoor discos each weeks and a resident live band.
OV is a bit bigger (although not really noticeable onboard) and has more facilities i.e. Costa Coffee bar, ice cream bar, James Martin restaurant, however these are are all subject to extra cost. Standard of service on OV is abysmal compared to that on Destiny.
I've tried to be as unbiased as I can to help you lol!
We save been on the Destiny i think its a great ship not too big, and very friendly, We have just booked the caribbean for next March on the Destiny, carnt wait never done the Caribbean before this will be our 4th cruise with thomson ships.
We are sailing on P&O's Oceana soon and I am expecting them to be the same as Princess unfortunately, but I hope to be proved wrong.

Is this the Thomson or Carnival Destiny you are referring to?
its thomson destiny im referring to
Im just back 3 weeks ago from the Destiny. The Destiny is a small ship compared to the big liners P&O would have. But she is the biggest in the Tompson Fleet. Ive been on the bigger ships in the carrabean but the atmosphire and friendlyness of the staff and passengers on the Destiny far out passes those bigger vessels. The Entertainment on Board is very good. Bands and shows to suit all tastes. If you go into one lounge and you dont like the band, then there is other Bars/lounges which will have a show on. Bill on the pianno is very good. Hell play anything you ask him. The Trio in the clipper bar are not brilliant but if your having a beer and a chat then will not hear them. Id preffer not to have a 10 hour flight to get a cruise. 2 hours and a bit in the air is enough for me.
Hi myself and other half are going on a back to back cruise, aboard the Destiny on March the 15th. A lot of people say we will be embarrased at how old and small our ship will be compared to the large new American ships sailing the Carribean. However I would not trade the friendliness of the Destiny for anything and I find it is the staff that give a good atmosphere to a ship which I could not fault any of them on the Thomson ships. Roll on March
