Hi All
I have booked for a week in April on the Coral Islands Cruise. For 3 adults & 1 child (13 years old)
Can anyone tell me if there are taxi's available at each port. After travelling with Thomson on Red Sea Magic, the ports were out of town, but there were plenty of taxi's waiting when the ship docked.
We just want to spend a few days at different beaches, :sun2 but the excursions are expensive, if all you want is the transport.
Any help from anyone wjo has already been on the cruise would be much appreciated.

We are considering booking the 14 nights on 29th march. just at this very moment trying to find a cheaper quote than the thomson website. ;) bit vexed that they want to charge us £338pp for the drinks package (it's free in 2010!) it's working out at £3,500 (that's everything including the drinks package and a flight upgrade though) reckon we'll have to drop the flight upgrade (we've never done long haul before so don't know what to expect) :( our local high street thomson agent can match the website but a thomson agent just 19 miles from us is quoting it £330 more! :que

where have you booked yours? high street agent?

Hi Suzanne
We booked our first cruise in the shop, but to be honest I would never book through the store again, we have since been on 2 further cruise both booked over the phone. What I would suggest is that you look on the web site and in the shop and get full prices for both. Then give them a call quoting your cheapest price, atell them you are unsure of not booking in store due to customer service, both times they have made substantial savings on the price I told them.
With regards to the drinks packages, unless both of you are heavy drinkers, I personally wouldn't bother. There are that many exclusions, (which I believe have been extended since the last time I sailed) and the prices on board are reasonable considering they have a captive market.
Hope this helps. Have a great time

thanks for that.

ps do you need to have jabs for a cruise round the caribbean? alo what's the best currency to take? god so clueless! :rofl

Hi Again
If your cruisung only, no jabs are required, however if you are combining a stay, then you will need a few (3 I think but please check).
With regards to cuurency all caribbean islands accept US Dollars, not sure if these are available on the ship as we ususally take it with us. We did however have to change money when in Jordon, but the tour guide on the coach did this for us. Not sure what the exchange rates would be like, but best to go prepared.
You will need to take cash as certain services dont accept cards or cheques.
Have a great time

As regards to flight upgrades on these flights, with the exception of Birmingham and Manchester they are being operated by First Choice aircraft which are pretty close to ideal for long haul flights you will get. Far more comfy and relaxing than many scheduled carriers, the crew are far better and I would personally not bother with the premium upgrade if it is a difference between the drinks package or something else on your holiday. The legroom is ample for anyone under 6'1"

For the flights from Brum and Manchester these are being operated by a Thomson/fly aircraft, these have the same leg room but are not as comfy, they have one more seat in the middle and less foam in the seat- sacrificed my blanket with my last lh flight with them for a cushion.

Going back to drinks package vs flights:-
All bags are X-rayed before being allowed on the ship mainly for dangerous goods, however secondary scans take place for alcohol- for obvious reasons, large volumes(over 100ml or so) shows up as a blob on these scaners, if you want to take a bottle of vodka or gin through put it in a wash bag in one of your suitcases and they will never know.... ;)

Hello Again
Has anyone travelled on the Destiny Carribbean starting 21st December?
In the brochure it says that the ports are visited in a different order on this and 12th April departure dates. I am travelling on the 12th April and am trying to book an excursion independantly but need to know what day we will be in Tortolla.. As usual Thomson just tell me to wait and see ... Nothing new there then.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Rachel

Excited is an understatement! :D (this time next week there will only be 5 hours left on the flight) :cheers

I packed most of my case yesterday, and managed not to put the entire contents of my wardrobe in there! :rofl

I will give you all the details when I get back (I promise).

Just booked for 2 weeks going 15th Feb from Manchester :)

I was going to ask the same about the mossies, having never sailed in the Caribbean before I wondered if there was a problem as we will be a sea in the evenings, do they travel that far out to try and bite us? Will still be taking the vitamin B1 tablets for 2 weeks before and during, just in case.

Has anyone had any experience with charging a Nintendo DS on the Destiny? My Uk charger only says 240V, I hope it will do it even if it takes all night.

Can anyone that has just returned please post the prices Thomson actually charge for their excursions, I doubt the prices on the website are anything like the real cost as the $ exchange rate has changed a lot in the last year. Will probably go DIY for most trips but there might be ones we fancy booking on the ship.

We are really looking forward to sailing on the Destiny again, the last time was 2 years ago (pre DS), it was a bit choppy in the Atlantic but the £10 injection sorted my wife's seasickness out.
She's hoping it's not needed in the Caribbean, that Russian nurse should be a Darts World champion...

Rachel C, have a great time.

Rachie B, I would recommend having jabs as most of them will cover you for 10 years of travelling back out there and other destinations, you might need a booster in 6 months for some of them but it's worth it. Your GP's practice nurse will be used to sorting out which ones are needed just say where you are going. A lot of GP's don't charge too.

Joe.

Hi Joe

The prices on the website for excursions are pretty much spot on, when I got my tickets, the excursions are listed and are the same kind of prices.

Rachel. :cheers :sun2
