We booked a package holiday through Direct Holidays last July to Kalithea (Rhodes) departing in June 08 this year.
We have received a letter from direct holidays and i'll quote:
We have recently been advised that an overbooking situation has occured at the Esperides Beach. We regret, therefore, that we are no longer able to offer our customers the holiday they originally booked. Provisional arrangements have been made for you, located in the resort of Faliraki. The Sun Palace studios have been awared a 3A plus rating and can be found on page 70 of our Airtours Greece, Cyprus and Turkey first edition brochure. Guests will receive the same room and board basis
As you can imagine this has came as quite a shock to our family, even more so that our group (2 adults, 1 child and 1 infant) have had this booked since july. Additionally the in laws booked into the same hotel on the same dates but with First Choice. We are now left in a situation where we have been offered 3A accomodation instead of 4 Star and also in Faliraki without the same facilities.
As usual it has proved virtually impossible to speak to the operations department in Direct Holidays over the weekend but checking on there website and actually pretending to book the holiday again through there booking line proved they are still actively selling the holiday on the dates we are travelling (Just at a more expensive price than we paid)
If anyone can give me any advice at all, on where we stand legally (It is impossible this holiday could of been overbooked since last July) I would be very grateful.
thanks in advance
Stephen
