Thanks a lot for your help Claire, we've booked somewhere in Kus that seems more in the centre than the Ladies Beach area (it was cheap and I'm a student... ) but with the frequent dolmuses it won't be a problem.
Icemeler looks lovely though, possibly go back next year
Thank you
Going here in September, can anyone help with recommendations for Jewellers and Restaurants(lower end of price scale please ie Soup Kitchens !!). Happy to travel out of this area if the food is worth it. We are staying at Fortin Hotel and any information on this would be welcome.
they have a website .. http://www.fortinhotel.8m.com/
i have friends who stayed there last summer & were pleased with it, it is pretty basic, but was very clean & the staff are very friendly.
As far as cheap places to eat, my favorite is called Bul bul, mainly turkish & ex pats eat there, its located oppsoite the cemtetary (Just a short walk from the town centre) & the food is delicious, they do a fantastic Pide. we eat there all the time when im over & have never spent more than £10 for a huge meal for 2 of us (In drinks)
there are a row of turkish restuarants in the centrum, near to the mayflower restuarant (ask for this place, as its very popular, so most people know where it is) the Turkish restaurants are where the locals eat & you can get a 3 course meal for about £4-5.
Close to the mosque is a chicken kebab place, they sell for only 1 ytl & are delicious.
Thank you Claire, I will continue to watch this topic for more replies. What you've given us is exactly what we were looking for.
thanks
Dugz,
thanks all in anticipation! I hope the Turkey forum is as friendly as the Goa forum where I spent most my time during the winter!
the Tur Hotel is in the centrum area of Kusadasi.
very close to where they have the friday market, your walking distance to the town beach & just a short dolmus drive to the other beaches.
there is a nice restaurant near to your hotel called albertos
Thanks Claire good info-we spent a few days in kusadassi last year cos we disliked Altinkum so much! looking forward to October!!
Has anyone ever been to Kusadasi? Or stayed at the Pamay Apartments. Can you tell me if it would be a suitable place for 2 couples in their early twenties. Were looking for a place with a nice beach and good selection of bars and restaurants. Thanks
We have stayed in Kusadasi twice and loved it.
There is plenty of nice places to eat,a lovely harbour to stroll down at night, places to sit and chill.
Nice shops to browse and a bazzare to wander around, having fun bargaining.
Loads of bars, especially bar st, where all the young ones head for.
If you want the beach every day, you need to stay in the Ladies beach area and then come in at night on the dolmus for the night life, but you would have to get a taxi home as no dolmus after 12.
Or do it the other way around, stay in town travel to the beach.
Ladies beach area has plenty of places to eat, drink and shop.
I am sure it will be very suitable for 20 somethings.
Have fun
Normally we go to Marmaris Icmeler
Is there any markets on and if so what date's
Myself my huby and 16yr old daughter are staying at Tuscan Beach Hotel
Were is the best place to go for a Turkish Bath?
Also what is a good trip to do from Kussadsi?
We have done boat trips jeep safari etc etc in Marmaris/Icmeler and loved them.
Can we get to Pammakula from here if so how far away is it?
Ive been once years ago but my hubby never been and would love to go back.
Do there accept Serling at the markets like they do in Marmaris?
Just not sure, sorry for so many question
Im a bit wary now that its getting nearer, dont know if we have done the right thing just wanted to try a different resort other than Marmaris.
Mind you we were in Marmaris in July but our mum died while we were there and didnt enjoy it as much.
We went to Olu Deniz in May stayed at Sun Club City we liked the hotel even though it was very quiet it had just opened
But didnt think much off the resort itself
The lagoon was lovely
But hey we have our flights for next June 2 weeks Marmaris/Icmeler so thats something to look forward to
Any info will be gratefull
There's also quite a good market in Selcuk on a Saturday - about a 20 minute dolmus ride from Kusadasi.
Sterling is accepted at both markets and in all shops.
The only trips we went on were to the House of the Virgin Mary and Ephesus, both well worth a look.
I've been to Icmeler twice before (and going again in October) and Kusadasi once. Kusadasi is nowhere near as picturesque as Icmeler but the shopping is great. If you could put the Palmin Hotel (where we stayed in Kusadasi) in Icmeler i'd be in heaven!!
the Tusan is beautiful, you will love it!!
Kusadasi has a few markets & bazaars, the bazaars are in the centre of town & are open until late every day, the markets are on Weds & friday.
There are a lot of trips that you can do from kusadasi, dont book thru your hotel, they are a lot cheaper if you book in town (most of the agencies charge about the same price) boat trips, aqua parks, ephesus, pammukale, horse trekking, Turkish nights .. the list goes on.
Your hotel has its own turkish bath & i have heard good reports back rom people who have used it. if you would rather use one away from the hotel, there is a nice Haman in the centrum (very close to bar street) Im not sure of the name, but it can be booked thru most of the tour agencies in the town & is very reasonable.
Pammukale is very close, about an hour on a tour bus.
Kusadasi is a pretty big resort & has different areas, dont forget to go down to ladies beach (my favorite part of Kus) there are some really nice places to grab a bite to eat, all family friendly & you have spectacular views to look at.
have fun
Pammukale is very close, about an hour on a tour bus.
Wish we had that driver, ours went the long scenic route!
Celine, hunt for Tusan and you should come up with loads of info, but just in case you can't find it - in brief:
Within sight of the hotel is ADALAND and over the hill is AquaFantasy, check out Google earth to see how close they are, so you can just catch local buses, no need for organised trips. These have to be among the best waterparks available to us mortals.
At the hotel gate you can also catch the Selcuk dolmus which goes past Ephesus and drops you at the Taxi rank. You can either hire a taxi to go to the top gate and walk back down, or just walk up the side road (about a mile probably) and you are in Ephesus(bottom gate). Go at lunch time (we left the hotel at 12) and you will have the place to yourselves.
Unless things have changed do not do the Thomas cook (JMC - Diana) boat trip. It was not a nice boat and didn't go to nice bays. Better boats down by pigeon island. Give the caravanserai eastern night a go, great food.(or it was a couple of years ago) The family were not impressed with the expensive Turkish Bath ie wash / massage at the hotel, the one along at Kustur is supposed to be better, although we just used to do our own thing in the Tusan with no problems.
Did the TC "Pummy trip" which also took in Aphrodisias(bit of a surprise as it hadn't been mentioned! glad I went if only for the awe inspiring stadium). Didn't leave us much time at all in Cleos' pool. Don't forget you need extra money to swim. The trip started at 6 am ish, and we got back at 9pm.
Our friends did a "town" trip jeep safari to a real turkish village and thoroughly enjoyed it. I did see other Pumekale trips advertised but did not note where else they went.
hi there i have been reading these posts and i have to say turkey has now become an expensive destination it is now dearer for drinks than greece and spain i can get a five course meal with a bottle of wine for two in spain for less than ten pounds and a pint for one euro.we have been going to turkey for ten years and gone are the days of four pints for a pound and a three course meal in a good quality establishment for four pounds. i will still visit turkey but will watch the pennies from now on as the days of care free spending of lira are over it is not monopoly money anymore.
i was in Kusadasi in July & for two of us we spent only £200 for the whole week on food & drink.
Most main meals were costing around £10 for 2 of us Inc soft drinks,(1 steak meal, 1 chicken meal) a pint of efes was 1.5ytl (less than £1) cocktails were 5YTL (£2)
(anyone interested, i mainly ate around the ladies beach area, as it is half the price as the main town)
Turkey (& kusadasi .. as this is what this thread is about) has plenty of very good reasonable places to eat & drink, many bargains to be found.
ate around kusadasi town and bar street but we normally eat in resort centers in any country we visit it is just that turkish resorts are now more expensive in general than other destinations we holiday four times a year once in turkey twice in spain and once in a greek island so we see all the prices.
Also what is the exchange rate this season and where in kussi is the best place to change money?
is Ruby's Drag bar still going this season-had a good night or two there last year!
And what will the weather be like-never been to Turkey so late in the year before!
We`ve never been in October, but our last holiday there finished at the end of September, and although still quite hot, without being too hot, during the day, it was noticeably cooler at night in the latter half of the 2nd week. It`s a few years since we were last there, but we found a little exchange bureau at the bottom of the pedestrianised hill that gave a very good rate. We love Kusadasi town, preferred Long Beach to Ladies Beach, found Ladies Beach a bit too crowded, like sardines. Our daughter and her husband liked Silver Beach, but we haven`t been there. Hope you have a good holiday.
