hi, there were 2 adults, and 4 children but there not big eaters, they didnt do know trips and hardly any shopping, there realy dissilusioned with turkey
Theres no way food and drinks would cost £150 for 2 adults and 4 kids per day!!! They must have definitely gone to the wrong places or drank loads or imported drinks!
I can remember years ago a young family moaning by the side of the pool where we stayed that they could not afford to eat out much longer - it transpired that they were going to the same restaurant every night- the dearest in town, we only went there once and that was enough
I definitely agree... I know being abroad for the first time could be really scary, but people should definitely try a few different places and compare their prices before they find the best one for them.. £150 a day is like 375 YTL at the current rate and that is a lot of money to pay for food and drinks anywhere in Turkey unless most of it was spent on alcohol..
Can't speak for kusadaci but having just returned from Side I ccan tell you we as a couple spent £800 on what was supposed to be a cheap 2 weeks away. Having been to turkey the last few years (Icmeler) I firmly believe that it is definitely more expensive this year. We did not go daft on the shopping front, the £800 was purely living expenses including some local drinks. Yes we ate out every day so this is where the bulk of the money went and yes we did try different restaurants and bars but as I said in a previous thread the bar and restaurant owners had gotten together prior to the beginning of the season and agreed a list of prices which were near enough uniform. We are off to Icmeler in June we will have to take a bit more cash than normal.

I know you found Side to be expensive this year, which it may be, but you said you spent £800 for the two of you in 2 weeks, which is less than £60 per day for two, and although most of it was spent on food I am sure you did some shopping too. Although this may be considered to be expensive compared to the previous years, I can still understand how you could have spent that much money.. Whereas this family in question spend £150 a day, that is £90 more than you did, and that is a lot of money for food and drinks for 4 kids!! Plus all this was spent on food and drinks only!!
If my post above appeared to be winjing it was not intended to be so. To be entirely candid, it would not have taken much effort to have spent another couple of hundred pounds on things but we have learned the lesson and will take sufficient funds for our holiday in June others who are going to turkey this year should do the same as it is undoubtedly more expensive. Sounds to me as though the family concerned had a raw deal somewhere down the line, which is sad,Helen and I love Turkey to bits, so we hate to hear of anyone having a negative experience. Just for the record, Helen says the bulk of our expenditure was on EFES!I deny all such charges!

i ahve been holidaysing in Kusadasi for years & always found it VERY cheap, normally spending about £150 TOTAL FOR A WEEK
eating out for every meal & drinking a fair bit each night.
i have heard that prices have gone up slightly this year, but not to that extent!
example a efes in ladies beach was 1.5 YTL last year, this year they are 3YTL (which is still less than is being charged in the central areas)
last summer a good friend stayed for a week in Kus & also managed to spend a fortune compared to me. after talking for hours about how he managed to spend so much, found out he was eating in teh same place most nights, as they had enjoyed it so much on their first night there. this also turned out to be one of the most expensive places in KUS to eat! (they also charged double for their drinks, compared to many other places)
im sorry your friends had that experience & hope it doesnt put them off going back to turkey.
Last year in Kalkan we averaged £40 a day on food and drink for two adults and Kalkan isnt cheap. We didnt go without or penny pinch, just chose not to eat in the places where £40 a head was the norm And indeed if we did have a major blow out one day then the lokanta done us the next where £3-5 was the norm
wow in all the years ive been going to turkey with my 3 kids ive never managed to spend 150 a day more like 50-60, something has gone wrong somewhere, either they have eaten in really expensive places, or as someone else suggested drank international brands and plenty of it, or have been ripped off big time, what a shame !!! i would ask them more information on where they were eating and what they were drinking etc
I don't think you could spend that much even here in Blackpool
Breakfast is free, lunch and all snacks are free, your drinks are free and if you want a bottle of wine to share before you have dinner, have it, then eat out if you feel that way.
You don't have the kids asking, "Muuum, can I have an ice cream and a coooooke?"
I've got away with £360 for two weeks A/I, and am looking forward to eating out most nights.
It's not the best hotel, but it is a damn good starter.

What is that word that Dell boy is always calling Rodney in only fools and horses?
Someone has been had me thinks........
we stayed in Altinkum last year , there was a family with about 4 kids , the mother was propped up against the bar most of the day and night ,moaning about how it was costing her a fortune everyday to feed her kids , the barman pointed out to her that all her kids were having at least two tubes of imported "Pringles" each everyday as well as lollies and other junk , and she was drinking "jack danials" all day and night , so no wonder !! The barman was good enough to point out that mabe if the kids did`nt stuff there faces all day ,they might not be so fat !! Bless him !!
We were in Kusadasi 2 years ago and were sitting by the pool one day when we overheard a conversation between 2 Dublin women saying how "VERY DEAR" it was to eat. Myself and my wife couldn't help but have a little giggle as it is just typical of the dubs as there idea of a meal out at home is burger and chips on the way home. I have yet to go on holiday to a cheaper place than Turkey. We ended up bringing money home as we couldn't spend it all out there.
by the way were welsh not irish if that makes a difference
Well that is fairly obvious from the flag beside your user name.
I'm off to Altinkum in July 2 adults & 3 kids.I've got £1500 for 2 weeks ,I don't mind cooking the odd meal and theres only a couple of trips I'm interested in ,so do you think this will be enough ?
Bearing in mind that I don't drink & my other half will drink local drinks
Any advice would be great
i would say thats ample over a £100 a day, we usually have breakfast in apartment ,buying their gorgeous bread, jam fruit etc which is very cheap, have a reasonably inexpensive lunch, kebab etc then splash out and have lovely evening meal,i always barter too and try and get at least 1 of the kids meals free and a free drink each etc, im sure you will have plenty for drinks in the evening too and spare for shopping
