Hi again, in answer to your questions:We had room no:37 so I think we must have been around about where you were with the pool out to the back of us.I agree about the lack of balcony but there was a sort of terrace at the front with chairs and a table but then it was'nt very private and there would'nt have been a veiw.I suppose though the lack of balcony to sit on does get you up and out to the beach!
On regard to breakfast we had the breakfast that was included which I thought was quite o.k the bread was nice & fresh every day and you had a good choice of the usual meat , cheeses, salad, olives, melon, cereal, yoghurt but there was also a toaster going all the time and you could also have scrambled eggs/ boiled eggs too.
I think though to buy breakfast (full english) it would have been about £3
which I thought was good (it was about £7 last year in Paxos)
In the Manuela resturant , main meals were anything from around £3 for spagetti/ pasta to £8 for beef/chicken type sizzling dishes which were really nice.I'm not sure what price fish was but I don't remember it being over priced. There was quite a bit of sea bass in the resturants.
the other good thing about the times we ate in the Manuela was that they usually gave us free Turkish bread 15% off the bill and a free round of drinks at the bar, so because there were 10 of us it was wll worth it and the food was good too.
when we had a meal at the Istanbul for instance (ottoman cuisine) our meal was over twice the price and it was'nt even that great.
Another resturant we tried that I forgot to mention was the anotolia. The food was o.k but the waiters drove us mad by dancing all around us which was funny at first but the joke did wear a bit thin after 30 mins!
thanks crockergirl
I have heard of a few good restaurants in the town and would welcome an update from anyone who has been this summer as some of the reviews I have read are at least a year old.
Like the sound of Seashells / The Blue Moon / The Red Dragon. Are they still going strong ?? Any others I should look out for (Turkish cuisine, Indian, anything with good grub)
thanks
Iain
Theres a Turkish restaurant just back from the beach heading up towards the taxi rank. I can't remember its name but it has big 2D cats up on the top of its roof!
I'm sure Crockergirl and Prawn will be able to help you.

Hi, Ian - going back to Bitez in 5 weeks and 6 days (not that I am counting). Some restaurant recommendations (just personal, you understand) First Stop - great food and good company - right on the beach front (as are most of the restaurants that cater to tourists): Pescatore - back from the beach behind the Bitez Han hotel - very small family run and serving good food at very reasonable prices (much less than you would pay on the front). For a special treat, try the Istanbul - we were taken there by Chris (from First Stop) when we said we wanted something different - quite expensive in comparison but fabulous food and a very special atmosphere if you are looking for something special. Behind the beach there is a pide restaurant - can't remember the name as we only discovered it at the end of last year - they also do patisserie and their baklava is to die for. You will also find a number of local locantas in the village that are worth a visit - the best one is near the mosque. Have a great time and let me know what you think when you get back.
I had heard about the resturant with the cut out cats on the roof but we only found it when we were'nt really looking on our last day(typical) I think that might be the pescatore that prawn recommended , correct me if i'm wrong please prawn!
I don't know if I said before but we had the best chinese ever at the red dragon (two nights in a row!)
give the anatolia a miss (funny old lot!)
We did have a lovely meal at the Istanbul the food was ottoman style, very rich.but the prices were quite steep in comparison to others.the young waiter(Halil) was sweet though.
I wish we'd tried first stop now but we were advised by a previous report I think it was Kingfisher that the hassle was really bad so we avoided it, silly really.
Like Briar,we did'nt think much of the four seasons though.
We did'nt try vona either but if Retsina is about she can let you know about that one as she was quite impressed. She also knows about seashells ,we did'nt try that one as it always looked a bit empty?
bon appetite Ian, mel.
Going to bitez in 5 days and would love to go on a boat trip. I have found a boat trip called 'bitez siesta boat trips' on the internet. It is meant to be a small boat for 12 people. Has anyone got any information on it or has ever been on one?
Many Thanks
Chris
They are insured to take 12 people only ,so it was perfect and as Ahmet has been doing this trip for 32 years and was the first person to do so, he really new his stuff. He timed it just right every time, missing all the big busy boats by minutes every time!
he took us to nice clear waters for swimming and snorkelling and caught an octopus for us to see!
we were dropped off for lunch at a small traditional turkish place where although you probably would'nt choose the resturant the people made us really welcome and the food was great. In the afternoon he put up the sail and we had the chance to experience a bit of sailing too.
The whole thing cost just £68 so about £7 each! and that included tea & fruit. He was a lovely guy and was really suprised when we gave him the big tip he truly deserved.
If you did want to book though I would advise you do so early on as it was quite full all the time, but definatly better than the busier boats.
Sorry I did'nt see the company you were asking about I've rambled on a bit now hav'nt I?
Mel. P.s everyone with us said it was their favourite day of the holiday.
It might have been me who put you off the First Stop Mel.... we thought the hassle from the hawkers there was so bad it boarderd on abuse!!! However, we were in Bitez right at the beginning of the season when it was quite quiet so all the restaurants were desperate for trade.
Hi mel,
I wouldn't book any trips before you go - book it when you get there. You'll get a better deal booking in the resort, with the boat trip owner or their agent. Don't book any trips at all with your tour operator - they are always overpriced, and usually not as good quality as the locally organised trips.
For a boat trip you'll be fine, there are lots of boats leave Bitez every day on boat trips, so you'll easily find one that will suit you for size and the day (or days) you want to go.
Elaine
I just read your message - totally brought back brilliant memories of a lazy couple of afternoons, on boat trips around Gumbet, sail unfurled, just drifting for what seemed like forever (was only a couple of hours). Every single passenger on the boat fell asleep, it was sooooo relaxing!
Can I have some more of your "this time, last week" moments please??
Elaine
Elaine i've decided those this time last weekers are doing me no good, but this time last week we had'nt been off the boat long, so we showered had our obligratary afternoon sleep so we could stay up later,(getting old 3 am was the limit!)
We had a nice meal just at the Manuela because we still had our sea legs and the kids all went off into Gumbet to party while we got talking to a lovely couple from London around the eucaliptus tree drinking far too many rakis!!
ahh heaven, thats it now back to reality.
Mel.

Thanks girls. Suggestions and warnings noted.
is it worth popping over to kos for the day ?
Kos town is lovely, and they have a pretty good beach too.
You can take a tour round the island (takes a couple of hours) see the windmills at Kefalos etc.
And its only 15-20 minutes from Bodrum harbour to Kos harbour by hydrofoil.
Elaine
thanks Elaine
KOS - Do you have to wait long when departing from Bodrum ( passport control, etc ?? ) Also do you have to pay another tenner to get back in to Turkey?
BITEZ - Seems there will be a lot of football on whilst I am there. Any recommendations of best place to watch games on the telly ?
13 days and counting !
We seemed to wait a long time before boarding the hydrofoil for Kos. A bit chaotic - but they seem to know what they are doing and no-one missed the boat. You don't have to pay £10 to get back into Turkey, because your visa is for 90 days. Loads of places to watch football (unfortunatley for those of us who don't watch it!) First Stop, Temple Bar (especially Irish matches) are just two, it seems that most of the bars and restaurants have Sky. Hope you have a good time.
