Hi guys
My Wife has decided to get away from it all for Xmas and new year, and me being my usual self was on the ball straight away.
Already booked our villa, found it on Ebay, messaged quite a few owners to see that a lot were already booked out for this period, but found a real nice place for £600 for the fortnight so we just took the plunge, and tbh for the time of year I don't think we could have got the same deal much cheaper.
I guess I should get round to the main reason for this post :D, how long do I have to wait for the airlines to have there prices available for our trip, most search engines are only showing flights up to Dec 2010 but we are hoping to leave on Dec 21st 2010 and fly home on Jan 4th 2011 so I'm not getting any quotes, I know it's early days but we have to save hard for this trip and I would love to know roughly what we are looking at.
hoping to fly from Edinburgh direct, any suggestions on sites I could try
This will probably be the first of many questions that the seasoned professionals will have to help me with
TIA
Johnnie

Scheduled flights for most airlines come out 330 days ahead.
We went for 3 weeks and our 1st week was fantastic as not a queue in sight, in fact they were ushering us in for the shows that were due to start. We came off the tower of terror for instance and just walked straight back in for another go.
Our next 2 weeks were totally different as the Christmas/New Year holidaymakers arrived. Fairly long queue's but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the place. I loved it!

Hi Glynis, By the sound of it we will be hitting the busy time but who cares we will be in Florida
How did you find the weather? been advised it's still nice during the day but a lot cooler first thing and into the evening, mainly thinking about paying the extra for the pool heating as a nice dip will round of a busy day
Do you remember roughly what your flight costs were?
Cheers
Johnnie
It's usually nice weather, but have a look at Orlando weather this week- brrr - unusually cold, causing lots of orange grove damage.

I think (only been the once) that the weather can be a bit hit and miss over the Christmas period. Our first week (just before the 'rush') was great. Next week, when our friends arrived for their 1st week, we bought those plastic rain poncho's (available as you enter the parks) as it was p'ing down. Didn't bother us one iota as we were having such a good time and just added to the fun of it all. (Everyone was wearing one..lol)
We didn't have a private apartment/villa we stayed in one of the hotels on IDrive but, had we done so, then yes, I would have paid the extra for the pool. I would imagine that after a day at the parks it'd be lovely to have your own heated pool to come home to and swim if you want to without the worry of it being too cold.

Thanks Glynis
Was over in 95 on a family trip and the heavens opened up think my mum still has the poncho's but I think your right with the pool heating, as far as i'm led to believe the mornings and evenings can be much cooler but the days can be very warm, so a heated pool will be much nicer for a midnight swim
Now my next question, open to anyone viewing this
I was looking at adding satnav to the hire car but they want around £90 on top of the hire price for the 2 weeks, started to think I would probably be cheaper buying one over there or alternative is to get the USA maps for my own satnav and take it with me.
which got me also thinking, can I put my satnav and digital camera in my laptop bag and take it all including laptop on the plane as carry on luggage?
Cheers
Johnnie
Well 30 days to go :)

You need to put all those things in your hand luggage. Valuables in your hold luggage are not covered by insurance.

maybe you guys can help me again
I'm Flying from Edinburgh to Amsterdam then onto Orlando (weather permitting) and been told there are some changes in baggage allowance, I'm trying to make sense of this as I'm flying technically with 2 different airlines Edinburgh to Amsterdam with KLM and onto Orlando with Martinair, is there a standard baggage allowance and if so what is it please?? as far as i know the weight is 23kilos but the dimensions of the suit case is also to be considered, is this correct?
thanks for any help
Johnnie
Hi Johnnie will point Dazbo HT Mod to this question for you
Baggage allowance should be confimed on your tickets / booking confirmation. KLM / Martinair's standard baggage allowance is 1 piece of checked-in luggage to a maximum of 23kg. Details are on Martinairs website. Unless you have a massive suitcase, dimensions are rarely a problems. You'll run out of weight before room normally!
Darren
had a look at Martinair's site last night as they are the ones who will be doing the main leg, but they seem to redirect me to KLM site which makes sense as they will be the first ones to get my cases lol, it seems your right with the 23 kilos but this also on there site
1 item of check-in baggage*,
each max. 23 kg (50.5 lbs),
max. 158 cm (62 inches) l + w + h
my niece said they are getting pretty tight on this now, but she flew with virgin from Manchester in may i think so not sure if KLM are as fussy. think we will go with what KLM say as i don't want to fall at the first hurdle lol
cheers for the info
Johnnie
Martinair are a schedule /charter airline and KLM own a majority share with flights sold via KLM hence the redirection and similar baggage limits. All airlines are getting tight on luggage allwance so don't exceed your stated limits as you'll be charged excess baggage.
Darren
and others very very cold ,the parks were crowded some rides had a 4hr wait
Sea World and Bush Gardens were the best for getting on the rides.
would not consider going again at Xmas. traffic to get into the Premium Outlets tailed
back onto the I 4
