We have booked DIY to Orlando for Feb half term this year (14 nights); These prices are for 2 adults and 2 children to give you an idea:

14 night Flydrive from Manchester (Travel City Direct) = £1210 (economy car)

4 Bed Town house on the Regal Palms Estate (direct from a British town house owner) sleeps 8- 10 for 10nights = £550

4 night Disney cruise to Bahamas, full board (Dreams Unlimited) = £911

Generally speaking unless the package companies are doing good deals (and sometimes they do - so always get prices to compare) the bigger the party size / number of kids, IMO the more money to be saved DIY.
Not sure however there would be very great savings from just 2 people doing DIY.

However, its not all about cost...it is also about the flexibility and choices that open up when you do DIY.
