Hi yummymummy, sorry your plans have had to change.
We usually end up with early morning flights somehow, and what we do is book a taxi transfer. If you look in Yellow Pages you will see that there are firms which specialise in airport transfers. Might be worth comparing the cost of this against the cost of parking/hotels and/or the hassle of finding your way round an unfamiliar airport. You do still have to get up early, but you can doze in the taxi. Means you don't have to worry about driving home either!
Going from Stansted this Sunday and as we're only 20 mins drive away, we're staying at home, but when we fly from Gatwick, we stay at a great B&B in Horley, 5 mins drive away. A triple bedded room with breakfast and 10 nights parking is about £100 and the owners drop you off & pick you up at Gatwick.
We've already booked our room there for our July 2011 holiday

we always stay in ahotel the night befor we fly, because we come from belfast and there are no direct flights to were we wana go, i dont mind tho, as we have a nice relaxing meal at hotel. then go back to the room have a shower then an early night, we wake up fresh and ready to start the holiday , we will be doin it tomorrow staying in europa hotel in gatwick, on route to goa on the 12th
Good luck with the Gatwick Europa. We had a disastrous stay with them a few years back. They gave our rooms away and failed to produce the airport transfer. I'll be interested to hear what you make of it.
ohh im sorry you had a bad time at europa, better not happen to tme , cos as they say over here we dont take kindly to being ripped off lol . will let you know how it went when we get back , Tammie
EVERYTHING on the day of the holiday, I don't cope well , and have found that if we are basically 'there' in the morning I'm ok. Last time our flight wasn't till 6pm, we checked in about 12.30 and had great fun in the airport, just looking around watching the planes and having lunch. We have decided to treat ourselves to the Sofitel hotel next year, (with a 6pm flight again!!) you can't get closer than that, unless you sleep on the runway
We always stay overnight, usually use the premier inn at Gatwick airport, I, like sunaddict get very anxious about We're flying from Gatwick in March and staying at the Sofitel. Our flight is 10.30 am though.
We are looking for a cheap holiday at beginning of march, so you never know, might see you around Where you going sorry
We are going to Cuba, 2nd week in March.
Have great time in Cuba
Thanx Trod, you too in the Maldives. Hopefully taking some athletes warm weather training to Portugal in April and then back to Lanzarote in September. Sorry
well i said i would let you know how europa hotel in gatwick turned out ,all i can say is we cant fault it at all, room was lovely , dinner was nice, and as it was just a stopover on are way to goa the next morning, i would use it again
tammie
Glad to hear it Tammie.
Also staying at the Europa next Tuesday evening for our early morning flight to the Dom Rep. We've also got car parking for 2 weeks included, does anyone know if you leave your car at the actual hotel or do you have to drive it to the parking lot then get the shuttle to the terminal?

We have done that the last 3 holidays as it has fitted in with the flights etc and we have gone from Manchester rather than Donny or East Mids.
We are staying there tonight too as we head of for Egypt tomorrow..
have a great holiday
We usually stay both on the way and return journey if we can help it.
2008 flying to venice, 6am flight stayed at the Bewley hotel, airport transfer, didnt need to wait, driver took me right away
2009 flying to Rimini-Cattolica, 5pm flight, so I flew down the day before from Glasgow, also stayed in the holiday in as my flight was at 10 am, spent the day in manchester, before returning to the Crowne hotel. Did not take the offer of airport transfer, just walked over to airport
2010, flying to Venice-lido de Jeselo, 7 am flight stayed in the radison, airport hotel, my room looked right on to runway, so I could watch all the flights
2011, going to Cattolica, but from london stansted-Ancona, 10 am flight, and will be staying overnight in one of the hotels near by
We stayed at the Thistle hotel at East Midlands last year. Couldn't fault the room or hotel very smart, couldn't hear the planes or traffic, but the prices for the meals and drink were astronomical. £28 for two steak and ale pies with potatoes and veg, anywhere else it would have half the price. Have also stayed at the Travelodge at East Midlands in the past, not so select as Thistle, could hear the traffic and planes, but plenty of places to get food.
