Kaz, it's your life and you can do whatever you want, but when someone like me has made the mistake and can see what sunbeds do to your face 20+ years later, then you can't expect me to say nothing.
Neither will I say nothing about the proven links with sunbeds and skin cancer, or the statistics that cancer research have put out.
In fact the World Health Organisation was told by the people who research radiation to put sunbeds in the same category as a carcinogenic hazard with tobacco and asbestos.
Spending 20 minutes on a sunbed is the equivalent of spending the entire day on the beach, but the sunbed can be emitting 10 to 15 times higher intensity of UV rays than the mid-day sun and because people want ‘instant results' for their money, the tanning industry have made the sunbeds more intense, so what's ‘safe' about them.?
I've been there and done it, and at the time I couldn't give a monkey's what I'll look like at 60 years old, but by the time you've gone through the menopause and had your skin damaged by either sunbeds or the sun, then no cream or potion will make any difference once the collagen has been destroyed, and when you look in the mirror and see the tram lines, the hooded eyelids and the jowls, then you'll wish that you'd listened to people of my generation.
I lost my old school friend to skin cancer, she died at the age of 48, and she started off just using a sunbed occasionally and she was going to be so sensible about it, then she liked the tanned look all year round and became addicted to the bleedin things.
I'm not having ‘a go' at anybody, it's not going to make any difference to my life what any of you do, but I get absolutely exasperated when people just poo poo it as tabloid or government nonsense..Yeah the government are a waste of space most of the time, but they have a duty to protect the health of the citizens of this country and they have to tell you the dangers, you might not want to hear it or may disregard it, but you can't dispute it if it's been proven.
Not having a go at DQ, she's young, but if I was 24 and I'd already had a dodgy mole removed, I wouldn't be asking about sunbeds or even thinking of dropping the SPF down.... I mean what does it take to make some people sit up and take notice.?
I've come to the conclusion "¦..Why can't people just be happy with the skin they've been born in. ?"¦we've black people using toxic bleaching chemicals to make themselves whiter and white people dying to be brown"¦.and you can poo poo it all you want, but die before their time, some of them will.

We are all aware of the dangers to our health with certain things, smoking, eating half cooked chicken etc. But if a chicken was delivered on my plate pink, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole so my sensible head says if the sun/sunbed makes me red then I should be taking extra precautions there too.
Years ago, because of the warnings, I upped my factor from a meagre 8 to what I use now which is 20. I've found I don't even go pink, as I'm not burning, I go more or less straight to brown. Yes it's a few days but I'm missing out the pink/red stage (where I had to sit rubbing yoghurt on my legs) and going straight to the brown.
Each to their own but just listen to your body and becareful. Happy hols
you've got to wear goggles because believe it or not the skin is so thin and just closing your eyes is not enough protection and you can get melanoma of the eye
And few people seem to be aware of the fact that not wearing decent eye protection - on a sunbed or even just in natural sunlight - increases the risk of your developing cataracts on your eyes. Cataracts are more prevalent in hot, sunny countries and, yes, they can be removed surgically but both my parents have had this done on both eyes and both are agreed that their sight is still not as good as it was pre-cataracts. Ever since I asked my optician if there was a genetic component to the chance of getting cataracts and he told my that the real danger was from sun exposure, I've taken his advice and ensured that I wear decent sunglasses that provide protection even when just dondering around my own garden on a sunny day.
