We've been to the Doretta twice (2002 & 2003). Ok - so the food's not haute cuisine, but it's certainly entirely edible. I've seen far worse. Like any other holiday hotel I've been to around the Med the choice gets a tad repetitive after nearly two weeks; but the only time we went off site was for a quiet meal without the kids on our wedding anniversary. There is some day by day variety though and a good choice at lunch time in the main restaurant. The snack bar is much the same every day. Breakfast more than just a basic continental as we've had elsewhere in the Greek islands. A lot depends on what yo uare expecting, and remember most holiday tummy bugs are nothing to do with the food - dehydration, bit too much of the sun and local vino collapso are more likely candidates.
The Doretta is a kids/family hotel - so expect them to be rowdy; and it's a great place to relax on the beach and have a laugh at the many and varied activities that Rob and his team put on...
PS - take a good joke book with you. Clean ones please, it's a family holiday. You'll soon find out why...
thanks for your reply - we've just come back from our 6th visit to zante so we are really looking forward to trying somewhere different (Rhodes).
so could you give me an example of what was on offer in the restaurant, Ie, breakfast and then dinner etc??????
thanks.
Hi again, Well I started the original post and have now returned from my 2 weeks at the Doreta Beach. Firstly, We had a fantastic holiday! The weather was lovely although we did have two thunder storms which only lasted a couple of hours and then brilliant sunshine. We have been to 6 all inclusive hotels in the past and overall this one was by far the best! If you have kids then this is definately the place to go, we hardly saw ours as there was so much for them to do plus loads of other kids so they had loads of new friends. We had a family room with five beds. It was not huge but roomy enough for our needs, there was also a fridge and the air conditioning was switched on constantly. A bonus was the pool/sea view. Yes the entertainment was slightly tacky with the reps doing all their own shows however this didnt bother us as we prefered to sit by the pool bar every evening. We went with the intentions of eating out a few nights as we had been to Tholos before and knew the resteraunts were nice, however we never ate out once. The food in the hotel was lovely. Breakfast was full English every day also choice of ham cheese etc. THe only chips were on the childrens menu at lunch and dinner. There was a different kind of potato eg, roast, boiled mash etc on the adult menu. All I can say is, we went on this holiday with an open mind as there are very mixed reviews. We always make a point of never going to the same hotel twice but this is an exception, we are definately going back next year! Is there is anything else you want to know I will be happy to answer. Angela.
Hi Angela,
Also are yainnis, Thermos & Chris still at the pool bar
Hi, I am booked into the Doreta Beach mid August and will be travelling with a 15 month old baby and wondered about her food. Does anyone know if the hotel provides baby food?
You probably need provide your own - there are several Supermarkets (in the holiday sense) across the street and along the road where you should be able to get it.
Jane, i too will be travelling with a 15 month old in September. Unfortunatly he has a milk allergy so we have to take tinned formula with us. I dont know if this is too cheeky but would you post on here when you get back and let us know about the local supermarkets. If they sell food and nappies is my main concern
Hi there.Just think weve spotted a bargain 1week all inclusive at doreta beach tholos in october. Can anyone give us any info on the hotel/resort.and weather in october
Hi has anyone been to this hotel would love to here from you we cancelled kab and have booked here AI waiting with anticipation
It's a decent hotel, not the best on the island but good value for money. Some of the rooms look a bit dated but huge pool and nice gardens, in fact all the public areas are really pleasant.
It's on the breezier west coast of the island so you might need a light jacket for the evening early/late season but if you're there July-August you'll be most grateful of it. It's not far from the airport so i'd recommend getting a taxi (much quicker and more comfortable than the coach transfer).
Tholos is a fairly small, peaceful village where you'll find a modern resort area (where Doreta is based) and a fairly traditional old, greek village just up the hill at the end of the resort. If you fancy a change from Doreta then Malibu Bar across the road is fairly lively, Mikes (turn left out of the hotel) is friendly with good food and there's a great traditional taverna in the old village.
Regular buses into Rhodes Town just across the road.
thanks still dont know if we done right maybe should have waited .Is it right men have to wear long trousers in restaurant at night
Hi Cathy ... we seem to have had several separate topics about this hotel, so I have merged them all into this 2 page thread which may now provide you with a little more info.
Yes, they prefer long trosers for gentlemen in the evening. Not Sunday best though. A pair of jogging bottoms, jeans, or Chinos will be fine.
Food is fine, different each day within limits. At least there are some traditional Greek choices every day and there is always tzatziki, olives and feta. The snack bar serves chips, salad and burgers/meatballs etc during the day. Drinks are quite goos. The barstaff are quite inventive at using the limited range of local spirits to make cocktails - and fruit juices and bottled water are included.
There is loads of entertainment from the 'animation' team. 5-a-side, volleyballo, boules, table tennis during the day. Various 'shows' or make-a-fool-of-the-guests follow the kids disco and bingo at night. Tholos is only a short (cheapish) taxi or bus ride from Rhodes town and the old town and Manmdraki harbour make a good evening out. The other popular local attraction is 'The Valley of the Butterflies'. This gats quite crowded once the coaches all arrive. Far better from Tholos to grab a taxi and go solo early in the morning. There is a taxi stand outside the hotel, with a board displaying the standard fares to many places.
Who'd you book with incidentally - Doretta has disappeared from some brochures this year?
HI and thanks for info we booked with FC after been cancelled going to KAB its on there web site but its cheaper in sunstart book you have really put my mind at rest we go to greece every year first time to Rhodes 15 of us going so looks like well av a great time
