When I was driving in a hire car in Turkey in March, I was stopped by the police in the early hours of the morning. As soon as I opened my mouth, he apologised profusely, was very polite, and wished me a safe journey.
Just as in UK, it depends I suppose on who you get!!

yes thats right if they are trafic cops they tend to be a bit harder and then you can get stopped by the jandama which want to see all sorts im not saying this will always happen but it is turkish law to carry at least you passport with you as a driving licence the old type dosn't have a picture not that anyone looks like there passport photo this is just a guide line
