I know that none of the airport hotels at Dublin offer parking for your holiday duration.

First time we flew from there we left the car in long term parking and think it was around £80 euro for the 2 weeks.

Last year....we got a lift down and back again  from Belfast. With the new road/toll bridge, it only takes a max of 2 hrs.

I have heard of some people booking a B&B on the outskirts of Dublin and they will drop you round to the airport and collect you and you can leave your car at the B&B.

I have been trying to find out the name and I have drawn a blank unfortunately! Maybe try the Dublin tourist board?

Hope this helps

Dublin Airport is warning of possible delays at security checks as from Monday, as the new EU restrictions on hand luggage come into effect in Ireland. A free helpline (1800-250-180) will be available from tomorrow for passengers flying from Dublin .... click here for more.

Thanks for that David. I'm flying from Dublin on 16th November. Will post what I find asap afterwards.

cate ... at least with not flying until the 16th, you will have just over a week to monitor the situation at Dublin and decide if you may need to allow any extra time. I certainly wouldn't like to be flying early next week, as I think the lack of public awareness will just add to the predicted chaos. But having said that, RTE were certainly highlighting the situation on news bulletins this evening.

I'm flying with Ryanair who don't open check in until 2 hours before flight departure. I'm just hoping I have time to buy bottle/s of water once airside.

Hi maggiemae ... Tuesday is still a fairly early stage of the new security measures. It may be worth keeping an eye on local news while you are in Ireland, and also using that freephone number to verify if check-in times are likely to be increased once they see how things go on Monday.

Does anyone know which gates Ryanair flights usually go from?

Hi, back from Dublin, no trouble at either Galway airport or Dublin yesterday, it was well broadcasted on the news whilst out there, and also at Dublin airport plenty of people on hand telling you what you could and couldn't take, and giving out clear bags to put your belongings in, much the same as what we experienced on Aug 10th when we flew out to Turkey from Bristol.I was delayed for three and a half hours though comming home due to bad weather at Exeter but got home safely in the end.
Cate. I'm pretty sure Ryanair go from Gate A well they did in April when i flew to Dublin with them from Bristol.

sorry. I've been a bit busy since getting back. Dublin airport. Arrived 0955 for a 1255 flight. Check in not open so that gave me plenty of time to do some finding out if what I had was ok. I did go to mcDonalds after asking about a couple of things. To cut a long story short liquid type items weren't ok in pencil case so was offered resealable bag but I had taken my own so used clear pencil case for MP3 player, mobile phone and electronic Bible. Was told that it didn't matter if 1 item in resealable bag containing liquids went behind another. Advice on toys for niece that make noise if pressed was to put them in hand luggage which I did. Geomag (construction set) was ok in hand luggage. Still ended up rearranging part of suitcase and hand luggage. going through security was ok. handed over plastic bag containing liquids which was put in small tray. Coat went in another. Can't remember if clear pencil case was put on top of coat or in seperate tray. Had forgotten to remove boots, had to reduce weight of suitcase, so instead of wearing trainers, was wearing knee high boots. Security staff were really friendly. Suggesting I sit on chair to remove one of my boots (stuck zip, other passengers blocking view of chairs). I did mention the geomag when I put bag on belt and staff said they'd see what showed up on screen. Once airside, did usual browsing and buying of a few things. Had pint of guinness in the bar. Bought 2 small bottles of water which weren't put in tamper evident bag. Post is long I know but wanted to make sure I put everything in.

Does anyone know how accessible (if at all!) Dublin airport is late at night? Also, how far it is from Marlay Park?

Trying to make plans to attend an event there on august 13th but the only way I can afford it would be to head straight back to the airport after the event.

By the time I've managed to get out of Marlay Park and back to the airport I'm guessing this could be about 01.00 or later. There's a flight out of Dublin at 08.00 back to Gatwick.

Would we be able to wait in the terminal for our flight?

Thank you.

Pippy :)

I've found out from someone who lives in Dublin and flies regularly that the airport doesn't close :)

How far is the airport from the city centre? Is it near enough for a taxi to be an affordable option?

We'll need to get from the airport to the city, do a bit of stocking up in the way of snacks/drinks, then catch a bus to Marlay Park.

Pippy ... it's 6 miles from the airport to the city centre and I believe the taxi fare is around €25.

Bus fares are around €6 single/€10 return. The Dublin Airport website will provide details of the various bus services.

However, it might be worth looking specifically at Dublin Bus, as there may well be a one day pass which you take advantage of, covering airport bus services and local buses to/from the concert venue, etc.

Just a comment. The one time I've been through Dublin airport (and on the return!) it was one hell of a long walk from the gates to immigration/baggage reclaim, with NO travelators, just a long long corridor. Do allow sufficient time, and pack oxygen! There was a vending machine in the area of the gates but very little else, and no stimulation whatsoever - zombieland! That said there is a super café on the top level at the far end to McD's that does the most amazing Irish breakfast, plus all the tea/coffee refills you can manage!
