British Airways will be taking over some of the ex-GB Airways routes. Hopefully, they'll start the service to Malta from Heathrow and leave Gatwick to all of the 'cockroach' cheapo airlines

Hi veedee,

I don't think Easyjet will operate to Malta from Liverpool as this would be classed as being a 'new' route. The question is will they continue to fly to Malta from Manchester as GB airways or Easyjet? if not then will BA continue to serve this route?

Same will apply to Standsted Mark. If Air Malta serve this route then Easyjet will not be allowed to!

Anything wrong with Ryanair - they fly to Luton as is. Would prefer some new routes from Germany, France and Holland...

Quote "A spokesman for the airline in Malta quoted the airline as saying that the planned flight schedule until March 29 next year would be honoured, flying the same fleet.

I've just cancelled flights booked with GB Airways for members of my family who were due to fly with them after March 29th. Booked them to fly with Air Malta £ 109.00 return.

Is flying through the back door to Malta similar to flying through a triangle off Bermuda.

Easyjet have announced on their website that they are opening a hub at Manchester airport and taking over the two planes operated by GB Airways. So it looks as though they are indeed flying to Malta from Manchester.

Keep an eye open for their opening offers!

Hi Sliema2,

I know that Easyjets website dosn't mention any destinations that they intend to operate out of Manchester but they do quote that they intend to 'maintain the GB Airways operation at Manchester' with the two planes that are currently GB Airways.

I have read this and presumed that they will fly to all of GB Airways destinations from Manchester. Well my fingers are crossed because although I prefer to fly with Air Malta, a little bit of competition does help in keeping prices down.

Hi Vee Dee, you have me at a loss  Have we met in Malta? if so we may well run into one another this week as we are back over there tomorrow :glynis

Happy New Year!

When BA sold GB Airways to Easyjet, there was concern that it would mean a loss of flights to Malta from the UK

Well, as already posted, Easyjet are to fly to Malta from Manchester and Gatwick - they are up on the website for booking now and the fares look excellent. I'm not sure if they are the exact slots GB Airways had.
Timetable is http://www.easyjet.com/EN/planning/index.asp

BA has also said they will continue to fly to Malta from Gatwick on a daily basis, so hopefully means more not less flights compared to last year !

That's interesting because I received a direct email from British Airways a few days ago (27th Dec) after asking them whether they plan to continue a service to Malta. Here is the reply, last line is what they say:

"Until the sale of GB Airways to easyJet has been confirmed, GB Airways flights will continue to be sold on ba.com as per our selling agreement with them. GB Airways have not notified that there will be no Club service on these flights so the cabin remains on sale. Passengers booking on these flights will be notified of the change of service by GB Airways and offered the choice of a refund once the sale is completed.

British Airways currently have no plans to operate flights to and from Malta."
