Very positive move by EJ there but Im wondering if it will cause more problems for families like us that often add other family members on at a later date if they are going to allocate seats by booking reference no .Unless they make it so you can add to the original booking which presently you can't do..

As an example I made my original booking for malta with just 3 of us and then had to make 2 further seperate bookings for each of my 2 elder sons when they decided to come . If Im reading it right we would all be scattered about the plane and in that situation I'd prefer the scrum :D

Hooray!! At least THEY can see the sense!

Never normally had a problem with Ryanair but getting our flight back from Treviso, Italy at 22.25 last Sunday was NIGHTMARE! It very nearly came to fisticuffs when we were all queuing to board the plane and you could see some people sitting in the seats just waiting. As soon as the gate showed signs of opening one man walked straight to the front of Priority Boarding queue - while others hung around 'our' queue waiting to nip in!

An Italian man just in front of us stormed up to the Ryanair check in crew demanding that it was THEIR responsibility to not let this happen - others shouting in his favour. I said then WHY cant they let you just book your seat at same time as booking the flight...OBVIOUSLY Mr O'Leary wants to get as much money out of you as he can though.

I think it could work against you Lyn but I guess many don't book in that way, so they won't have given it a lot of thought when coming up with their business plan. In general we have managed to get seats together when in the scrum even when ther were five of us. Although going to Geneva we isn't even bother to try last year, flight so short we just said in the first available seats apart from me everyone lse always seems to fall asleep :rofl

Great, they've done it at last! I know people who won't travel with them because they can't abide the free for all. We've just booked some for next year, and it was great to book our seats for only £3 each!

great news unless you have already booked !!!!

We have a couple of future bookings where we took and paid the speedy boarding option to try and get the benefit of emergency exit seats and now find that due to this 'improvement' we have been pre-allocated seating but in row 2 !!! and no obvious option to change this and pay more to get the extra legroom seating.

You can change your seats TFS1, just click on change seats, (or however it is worded, cant quite remember) click on the ones they have allocated to you to cancel them, then click on the new seats you want instead, if they are extra leg room seats and you have already paid for speedy boarding it is just an extra £4 pp each way on top of what you have already paid.
By the way, for Man/Tenerife flights at least it doesnt start until 27th Nov this year

V-M,

once again thanks, we now have seats in row 12 for our Tenerife flights but will leave it to Easyjet to allocate seats our mainland 2hr Spain flights.

All of our family and kids are joining us early Nov in Tenerife so they will have to 'go for it' rather have the more sedate loading process that we can now expect - will see how ouir loading pans out !

It’s been a long time coming but it seems easyJet is beginning to realise that putting the customer first is good business sense.

The airline has long been considered more friendly than its nearest competitor, Ryanair, and it seems its latest decision to allocate all seats prior to boarding is the next step.

I think easyjets business is going to benefit greatly with this change , I've always been pleased and impressed when flying with them and find their prices very competitive, even the new select seat prices are reasonable and I think that many more families will now use them instead of Thomson and TC as their flight only prices always seem a bit high , I think they are EJs nearest competitor rather than Ryanair with its awful reputation and obnoxious CEO , this is a really clever and fantastic business move made by EJ at a time when people are looking for good value but with good customer service .

You're welcome TFS1, i altered my flights last night, have also gone for row 12 on our Jan flights - so pleased Easyjet has done this at last, long overdue!

Putting the customer first (?) and having a structured seating charging system, mainly for 'premiurm seats', but getting more money for other seats is good business sense and generating much needed extra revenue for the company.

How long before these £12 seats, currently 'free', are £15 / £20 ?

I accept that allocated seating makes life easier and especially for those who can not cope with the current system but the customer pays - never forget that !

Chris

ps having said the above i will always be happy to pay a little more to get our extra legroom !!!!!!!

If I was to pay £12 for both of us that would be £48 total and guaranteed ex leg seat and las year I paid £42 for speedy boarding with a good chance of an ex leg seat , but needed to be primed and focused like usain bolt to make sure I got that seat , I think the price is fair , but as you say it might rise in time, at least you are getting something for what you are paying out , does Ryanair still make a charge to check in online ? I mean you are actually using your own computer ?
Also on a flight I've looked at , the luggage charge was £29 for 20kg and Thomson wanted £32 for 15 kg and it would cost £48 for 20kg , I think EJs add ons are fairly priced .

andy66 - I take your point £12 is pretty good value but again its £2.50 more than current speedy boarding cost of £9.50 where you could get these seats as part of the speedy package, something we have always achieved and trust me im no usain Bolt , I'm more of a Geoff Capes !

We have already paid £9.50 for speedy boarding and we now have paid another £4 to upgrade to emergency legroom seats, so having already given Easyjet money for some months we are paying an extra premium for this and the seats are costing us £13.50.

However, this is not a moan - its our choice and if you want something you pay for it, if we didnt want it we wouldnt have bothered.

Obviously as you say there is a cost attached to everything!!! And airlines are good at putting a price on everything , I used to book flights in advance and then add luggage and speedy at the last minute so not giving them all my money upfront , now you can't really do that if you want specific seats !
But as a business idea I think this a good move by EJ as the budget traveller doesnt have to select a seat but will be allocated one so it costs them no more and it's family friendly in that mum & dad & 2 kids can select their seats for only £12 each way total and know they will be sitting together , and this will get them a lot of brownie points from the media.
I think a 4 hour + flight it's worth paying extra for a bit more room ,on a 2 hour flight it's not that important .

I agree regarding length of flights and costs, we have never paid for extra legroom/prioriity boarding for the 2hr hop to Spain but 4hr' + flights its worth the cost.

Having paid very little for a Thomson flight some 10 years or so ago to Tenerife, as did many others on the same flight, we were hearded to the back of the plane and squashed into the smallest of legroom. Never again either on Thomson or similar airlines ie Monach on their standard seating. Cheap fares are ok if you are 5ft tall !

I'm disappointed in having to pay more ie £13.50 in total rather than £12 maybe the person near me will have paid for the same type of seat. Cuddly Easyjet are clearly a business and loyalty and fairness is something they dont care too much about in this respect.

I'll happily pay for a seat, less stressful than running the gauntlet to board. :tup

And the £12 is still cheaper than the £15 I recently paid on a Thomas Cook flight to Egypt so I guess EJ are trying to remain competitive within their Business Plan.

And I like EJ. To be perfectly honest I would rather fly with them scrum or no scrum than TC on a short haul. They leave on time quickly and it May be my imagination but I think you get more room too. Last time we flew to Egypt with TC the lads had their knees tucked up to their chests it was so cramped .
Reply
No it wasn't your imagination, I have no idea what TC have done on their red sea flights or maybe it is just because it is over five hours, but it was very uncomfortable. Only did it as their deal to the Movenpick was unbelievably good and that was my priority.. EJ seem to be many people's preferred carrier for Sharm and Hurgarda
