Hi there everyone. I've just booked myself 2 weeks in El Gouna staying at the Movenpick. Can anyone give me any information on excursions we can do from El Gouna and how much roughly they cost please?
Thanks
Laurence
I'm not up to date with the latest costs, but the small tour operator based in El Gouna is called Pro-tours and they at least list the excursions on offer on their website http://www.protourstravel.com -and you can e-mail them for current prices.(trips to Luxor, Cairo, Meymeya etc)
There are also quad-bike trips into the desert, star-watching trips etc which can be booked in resort via one of the independent operators, such as "Alex Safari" based in Tamr Henna Square El Gouna - or the hotel (and presumably your tour operator) can book these for you - though they are likely to be more expensive.
The information centre in El gouna is worth a visit early in your stay to check up on what is available

Should have said that there are various yacht charters available too - you might want to check out the website for the Galatea - which does both trips and private charter work, snorkel/diving trips, etc

We always book via Longwoods and their tours can be found at longwoods.co.uk and selecting where we go ->Egypt -> El Gouna and then tours & excursions
Although titled Hurghada, they can all be booked in El Gouna, usually for a few $'s more though.

Last year we went to Mahmeya island, whole day trip including lunch and three snorkelling stops I think, and this cost approx £45 a head through Thos Cook. Got to say I thought it a tad expensive, but the island itself was absolute paradise! Everytihng was included. Shall check out the other links though, going back this year and wanting to do more snorkelling trips!

Brilliant... got a reply from protours complete with price list , so we can now plan in advance what we shall do!!
If you do go for one of the long trips (we did Luxor with Protours a couple of years ago) I'd seriously suggest either flying - or preferably staying at least one night. Luxor is a good 4 hours on the road each way - Cairo 5 and a half ish - with the heat and the convoy and the roads it's exhausting!!
We went to Luxor/Nile for a fortnight a few years ago, brilliant holiday, and to be honest Cairo doesnt appeal to me at all. I am looking for half/whole day snorkelling trips etc, rather than travelling outside El GOuna. I can imagine these trips would be exhausting, and you certainly couldnt do Luxor justice in a few hours!!
Mahmeya is a great day out - though depends when you are traveling - wouldn't recommend the winter as it can get decidedly choppy!!!
One on my "to do" list is the stargazing - have heard good reports about it.
not sure if there would be a difference in price booking something like the Galatea Trip either direct (see previous post) or through the info office in gouna rather than going through Pro-Tours but I would suspect so......
Am going to get another contact for you regarding quad-biking trips if you can hang on a day or so (would at least make an interesting price comparison)

We did Mahmeya last year, it was absolute paradise, but pretty expensive... think it worked out around £48 per head through Thomas Cook... I see its on Protours list at 75 euros, approx £50 or more?? Protours offer a full day snorkelling trip, 25 euros, but dont say where to... any ideas?
Also, there was another island mentioned when we were there, Alex Safari on the beach kept trying to flog the trip to us, do you recall this? Tiran island comes to mind, by I may be thinking of Sharm??

Giftun... thats the one! How does that compare to Mahmeya? We had to go to Hurghada first to go to Mahmeya as well. And the other island, Tawila - do you know anything about that?
Just had a wee surf for these islands and found a listing of them on elgouna.com, although they dont mention giften, or who actually does trips to them.
Think it would be easier getting to Giftun from Hurghada - unless you can run to a private charter (from the el gouna Marina - not a cheap option)
Have a contact for desert quadbiking for you;
