We stayed at Tiburon in May and liked Levante bar,Connies and Karthueile, hope they are all open. When you come out of hotel, turn right and at the bottom of street there is a little tapas place called Sylvia' s - we used to go there for our tapas - all the locals use it. Have a good hol

Just got back from the El Tiburon today Christine. It's a great friendly hotel with good staff, and it's well placed.
Regarding restaurants, you will be spoilt for choice, there are hundreds of them. If you want quality, head towards the port beside Benalmadena and there are some great finds.

Enjoy your hols, and the hotel.

Yes Christine there are safety deposit boxes in the rooms if you need them. I never felt like I would need them though as the the hotel has a very secure feel about it..
Weatherwise, we had a few cloudy days, followed by a couple of very warm (for the time of year) days - can't really complain, but it was a bit chilly in the evenings and a jacket/warm top is needed.

Enjoy,

Robby

PS: If you can, get a room overlooking the pool. You get the sun all afternoon if you fancy a little siesta on the balcony.

Christine - forgot to say that the Tiburon bar is a good place to finish off your night, always friendly and chatty people there.

Sorry Robby  if I appear to come down heavy on this subject....this post is not aimed directly at you...just advice in general

Safety deposit boxes are essential, there is NO HOTEL anywhere in the world that is secure, chose how many doors, locks or staff are in it.
You may also find that certain Insurance policies will become void, if you have not hired a deposit box and place your valuables inside them, when the facility has been made available by the hotel.
Also, there is a limit on the amount of value that the safety box is insured for.
The last SDB we hired, the total amount of cash and contents was £600....any traveller`s cheques are insured in their own right, just as long as you have kept the serial numbers seperate from the cheques themselves...and not together in the safe .!!!!!
In other words...if you place £1000 cash inside the box, and the box gets broken into....then you will be able to recover £600, and will have an awful lot of trouble trying to convince the Insurance people that you had £1000 inside.

I personally, feel that anyone who has spent a considerable amount of money to go on holiday, and then skimps on hiring a SDB are just asking for trouble and are a fool to themselves....
The people who walk around with large amounts of cash and their passport on them...well
Don`t come crying on my shoulder

No offence taken Sanji, but if you want to carry large sums of money, then hire a safe deposit box.
I prefer the more modern way, and use a Nationwide debit card, and get cash as and when needed. I don't take jewellery etc and a sefety deposit box doesn't hold 6400 ciggies  , but each to their own.

Hi Robby
So where do you keep your passport, flight tickets and Insurance document.?...two of which, you need to get back out of the country to bring your ciggies home.

Sorry Christine  did`nt mean to hijack your thread, just wanted to clarify the situation regarding SDB`s.
Sorry

No problems Sanji,

Are there any chinese restaraunts near to EL TIburon? We tend to eat chinese a bit whilst abroad as there such good value and the ones near our home town aren`t so good.

Also Robby W are the rooms heated ?

I`m really looking forward to going 3 weeks today and I`ll be there.

Christine, the rooms have a heater in them. We used to put ours on between 4-6pm and leave them on until it timed out, it does get chilly later in the day.
There is a Chinese restaurant beside the hotel, as you come out of the hotel, take a right to the end of the street, a right again passed the pizza place, and it's beside the cake shop. Unfortunately it is not great, infact the worst meal we had, but it was the only Chinese meal we had. Fortunately there are loads and loads of other Chinese restaurants, so there must be a few good ones. There is a Chinese/Thai restaurant approx 400 metres from the hotel, again out of the hotel, take a right and stay on the road for approx 400 metres and this one is supposed to be OK. You can get a 3 course set menu meal for around 5/6 Euros, though the dearer ones give you more choice.

Hope this helps, have a good time.

Christine there's a chinese up beside the Sea Wolf pub just behind the Cabello hotel. We never went in but were friendly with some Danish people and they used it often and said it was good.

Can anyone tell me what the situation is re smoking/no smoking at the El Tiburon bar & lounge. I was there in November which was before the new smoking ban. I was thinking of going back in March but this will depend on whether you can smoke at the bar & lounge. As a lone person travelling I am not comfortable going into a bar (outside of a hotel) on my own, so have always booked a hotel with a bar.

Last week Katherine the hotel bar was no smoking and customers and staff went to the front door to light up. If you can keep a secret, once or twice this rule was relaxed, but officially it's no smoking.

Many thanks Robby for your speedy response. It is greatly appreciated. As I enjoy having a few drinks and cigarettes in the evening on holiday I may have to overcome my self consciousness about going into a bar on my own. At least I would not be restricted to booking hotels that have bars.

You're welcome Katherine, hope you can overcome your self consciousness. You are going to a great area in Spain, and it would be a shame to miss out on so much.

Best wishes,

Hmm! Not sure that calling your hotel 'The Shark' really conjures up a good and welcoming image :-) Especially amongst the Salsa fraternity where there is a well known and popular song called 'El Tiburon' about a bloke who cruises the dancefloors looking for his next victim!

There is actually a 6-8 foot metal sculpture of a shark hanging behind the bar area, which carries on the theme. Don't think they are looking for victims though at this hotel, luckily this family run hotel offers a very relaxed friendly atmosphere.
