Hi again Claire, OK, let me put it this way anyone that has been to Cyprus goes back again, it's addictive. The way I have described it to people is like Ireland with sunshine - the people are so so so so friendly it's a shock to the system. You cannot go to Majorca... it would be a crime. I am like a public address system for Cyrprus. We're not going this year and I'm heartbroken  . It's the first time we haven't gone for three years and I have not got excited about my holiday yet at all... we go on 19 August to Tenerife. I'm sure it will be lovely but I know I'll be comparing it to Cyprus the whole time. Needless to say we have already decided that we're going to Cyprus next year

OK, what can we use to convince the hubby... driving is the same as in England. Left hand side of the road, same road signs, traffic lights etc. Even I would drive in Cyprus and I'm a notorious wuss when it comes to driving abroad

A car is a must as there is so much beauty to the island and so many different landscapes. Drive up into the Troodos mountains, it's beautiful. So clean and cool and fresh, smells of pine everywhere. You can stop in a little village up there and have lunch very cheaply and you'll be made just as welcome there by the locals as you will in a tourist area.

Lots of things to amuse the kids, the fairground in Ayia Napa, bars with kiddies entertainment, crazy golf. Have their portraits painted in the square by the monastary, they are really good, so professional and quick so the little darlings won't want to do a runner before they're finished

Catamaran trips from the harbour in Ayia Napa are brill. Lunch included, can't remember the price of it now but I remember that it was very reasonable.

The waterpark - great for the kids and the hubby. It's the best one I've ever been to. I was there last August and we hardly queued then, it is so well run.

Shops... you want shops... there are loads of the damn things. now bear in mind that my son was 14 last year when we went and had his birthday money burning a hole in his pocket... sports shops... Lacoste shops... designer shops... aftershave shops... an afternoon... we traipsed around those shops for what seemed like the entire holiday

Please go to Cyprus, it really is second to none and somewhere that I think everyone should experience 8)

(public address over.... )

 - I'm back!

Forgot to say that if the Electra is near to the Tasia Maris Gardens which we stayed in (as mentioned by Elizabeth) then it takes approx. 20-30 mins to walk into Ayia Napa. You can either walk along Nissi Avenue which takes you past all the shops, the fairground and leads you to the harbour road - or you can take the left at the fork in the road (you'll see it) and this brings you into the back of the bar area of Ayia Napa (where the Town Hall is), that way you'll reach bars and restaurants quicker than going to the harbour road. We walked it every night, lots to look at on the way and then caught a taxi back - 5CYP.

hayleash,

thankyou so much for the time you have taken to reply to my add cyprus sounds an excellent choice

we went to tenerife a few years back, and had an excellent time,so hope you enjoy your stay 8)

I would expect cyprus to be warmer than majorca, which will interest hubby as he loves the warm, any idea what sort of temps we should expect end june early july?

:sun 30's hopefully.

thanks again, enjoy tenerife it will be great :fly

as for comparing tenerife to cyprus then no doubt you will as my hubby will do cyprus to majorca if i can get him to go.

can anyone who has stayed at this complex recently tell me if the bedrooms have door locks on the inside please?
we stayed in majorca a couple of years back and although the doors were obviously locked from the outside we had to barracade the door with our suitcases etc at night for the fear that the little ones may decide to go for a wander late at night whilst we were sleeping.

Also does anyone have any recommendations of a good room to ask for?

will ask for the usual ground floor, pool view etc, but we need a relatively quiet room if thats possible, a kind lady on another forum suggested that we asked to be away from the entertainment area.

many thanks, any other information on this complex would be much appreciated as im trying to persuade a headstrong hubby to go here next year and not to visit alcudia majorca again, as we have been there befor.

thanks

I've been to Cyprus in August and March. August both times up in the 90s, March was 88  fantastic!

I would say that end of June/early July you'll be getting late 80s/hitting the 90s and if he likes the heat he will be in heaven!

I'm sure I'll enjoy Tenerife... just gotta remember to order San Miguel instead of Keo!

Please let me know where you decide to go and if I can help any further. :D

Claire,

I'm here to agree with everything that hayleyash said about the appeal of Cyprus.

We've been more times than I can count since we first went in 1988. Its at least 15 times probably quite a bit more.

We settled into a routine of going once a year in May. Then a couple of years ago, we started to go twice, May and September. We go to other places in the winter as Cyprus can be cool and wet then, but always go back to Cyprus.

It's a lovely place.

Its not in the least "backward" like people sometimes worry about . I've had friends who went to Spain and Portugal and wouldnt go to Cyprus because they thought it wouldnt be - something - I dont know what word to use, they thought it would be like the 3rd world or something. They soon changed their minds when they saw what it was like for themselves.

Regarding the driving. Hmm my husband and I were driving in the mountains once and he made a left turn and started driving on the wrong side. I shrieked and he shook his head all confused and said "dont know what happened there, I thought I was in France"

Its only happened once though.

Yahoo - a new convert!

FYI Cyprus is always a bit dearer to go to as the flight is longer (4.5 hours) and they don't have to knock their prices down cos it's just so damn fantastic people flock there!

Your hubby is going to love it I promise. Tell him that the local brew is Keo and it's gorgeous (and I'm a lager connoisseur)

Hi Elvis

Do you know Ayia Napa at all ?

The Electra is 20 minutes out of Napa centre towards the Waterpark. It's 5 minutes from Nissi Beach

I'm off to Napa tomorrow and staying very close to the Electra at the Paradise Village........other hotels in the vicinity are the Olympic Lagoon, Nissi Bay along with many others. I'd probably suggest that if you aren't familiar with the area, grab a couple of hol brochures.......First Choice might be best as they go to the Electra and it will show a map on the page which might give you more of an idea.

There are bars/restaurants around this area but it's fairly low key and most of this area is serviced by the hotels as an awful lot offer entertainment and most guests on HB or FB. Having said that you can walk into Napa in about 20/25 minutes or there's a bus stop right outside the Electra and the buses run about evey 20 minutes. In the evening you would need a cab and it's about 4CYP each way.

This area is my fav in Napa as you have the best of both worlds....best beaches, quieter during the day and the evening BUT you have the option of getting to Ayia Napa very, very easily and quickly. I highly recommend the area but can't comment on the Electra as never stayed there.

Hope that helps some ? I'll have a look at the Electra exact location whilst there and let you know in a couple of weeks.

The position of the Elektra is deceptive, although it's not far as the crow flies from the town, it's at the bottom of a very large cul-de-sac, to get to the main road you have a fair walk, especially with a 6 year old.
It is right on the sea but has no beach frontage, you'd need to cut across to Sandy Bay, probably 10 mins max.

I've picked a lot of Brits up from there and not had anybody moaning, so on that basis it should be OK

Sapphire and Cabbie - thanks a lot for your replies .

I have been to Napa 9 times so far and really love it there. This year we stayed at the Nester near the Harbour which was lovely. We fancy a change next year so have picked the Electra as it has some great reviews.

There is some dispute in our family as to where exactly it is situated. I know it is not far from Sandy Bay on the way to the Waterpark but am not sure how far down the main road it is. I am picturing it somewhere near where the road "forks" where the mexican is and across the road from Flames. not sure if i have got my bearings right.

Anyway, sapphire I hope I am not too late in wishing you a brilliant holiday you lucky thing - have a great time and I look forward to reading your post when you get back.
