Hi
Does anyone know where I can see some elephants, which are not in a zoo or one stuck in a spice garden or similar to draw people in? I am staying in the south, by the way.
I went to an elephant santuary in Sri Lanka & that was just great. Loads & loads of the wonderful beasts & to see them all tramp down to the river to bathe/play was awesome. Sadly some there had lost a foot due to a landmine but this place was set up to look after them & also orphans.
Thanks
If you can get down to Karnataka, halfway between Bangalore and Mysore, in Coorg Country, near Nagarahole National Park, (Full of wild elephants) is Dubare Elephant camp. It is full of all sorts of elephants of all shapes and sizes, about the same size as the big one in Sri Lanka, the difference being, ourselves and one other couple, were the only people there and the charming old camp vet took us round, and answered all our questions, it was a mgical experience, feeding them , bathing the pregnant mums, and generally getting up really close to these wonderfull animals Alan
How far is this place from Baga? Would really love to do something like this when we're out there next month, worried that we might be staying too far away tho ....
Thanks for that info., it sounds fabulous But I was wondering about the distance too, but does look a rather long way on the map I checked?
We saw loads of elephants in baga this time, i dont know if it was because it was xmas !!! I hope to see them again when i go at easter as maybe other half will not leave the camara back at home
