Glad you had a good time. I told you it was nowhere near as bad as people made it out to be. It's only 9 weeks off us going back.

I don't suppose you saw anything of the suites did you. When we went last time we were told we would have a roof top pool, but they weren't built, do you know if these are now done? Also, if you go to their website, under news it says they were suppose to have an additional 16 suites and a conference room. It said these were supposed to have been built at the start of this season but there was no signs of this being done while we were there - has this work started?

hi Sarah,

While i was there i went into one of the suites, they were nice... however the 1st floor ones pool were not finished,

i spoke to the supervisor who advised that by the start of next season the 16 new suites will be built. (as yet i didnt see they had started the work.

Hope you have a good time there agaiN!!!

I had a feeling they wouldn't be. We were assured that the 1st floor pools would be built within 2 weeks of us leaving - that would have meant the end of May. Hope they are done by the time we go back :-)

Hi Rick

I'm glad you had a good holiday, I posted at the begining in this thread as I was considering this hotel for next year and as you are aware there wasn't much info on it.

I feel we should be thanking you rather than the other way round as by you starting this thread we now have quite a lot of info on HT about the Ixian Grand hotel, and thats what the site is all about.

86 replies and 4500 views. Can't be bad. :D

Having just got back from a very relaxing 2 weeks, I thought it was time to bore you all, sorry, that should be post my trip report
We got off to a dodgy start, being an hour late out of Gatwick due to all the extra security at the time (16th Aug.) Arriving at the hotel at about half 4 local time, to find our room wasn't ready  We spent the night in room 341, a "family" room, with an exta seating area, which was quite nice. After breakfast we moved to room 246, a "standard" room, as per our booking. It was still of a reasonable size (3 of us, remember) with 3 single beds. The hotel apologised for the room mix up with a basket of fruit & a bottle of wine.
The public areas of the hotel are spotless, and are very well furnished - you can see where the money has been spent. The staff are all very friendly, and helpful, especially the bar staff :glynis
The 3 pools are all great, and the shingle beach gives way to sand about 2 yards into the water, and is very pleasant, so all you water babies will be happy. We're not great sunbed users, but we usually got one or two without any trouble, regardless of time.
The main restaurant is very nice, with all the food very well presented, with a reasonable selection, although like all AI buffets, it does get a bit boring after a while. The "ethnic" lunch restaurant makes a pleasant change, with a different cuisine every day - Greek, Spanish, Chinese, Mexican, Italian and so on. The a la carte wasn't that great when we went, but we were told that the menu was changed, and was much better the second week we were there.
We went on 3 trips while we were there - Symi, Marmaris, and the round the island trip, as well as going to Rhodes and Lindos by taxi a couple of times - if anyone wants details, just ask.
Overall, this was a very relaxing holiday, in a good hotel, and we are seriously considering booking here again soon. What more can I say?

Well, we just got back from our second visit.

It was a really nice relaxing week but for anyone wanting a "busy" holiday, I would not recommend Ixia in October. Every bar we went in had no more than 4 people in. Apparently the 1st week in October was ok. There was no queue at the bar in the evening which was a plus and the hotel still had quite a few people staying (although not many English!)

We were also there for the storms (the ones which killed 2 people on the other side of the island). They were pretty scary and the hotel is not very waterproof after 3 hours of solid rain! The staff were brilliant though and, as we were staying in the suites it would have meant us walking outside past the pool and restaurants to get back. George, the barman, made sure we were ok and showed us a way, via the basement, so that we stayed dry!

For the person who asked about the kittens, there were 6 of them around the hotel grounds and they were all very healthy and friendly.

I would still definetly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit

i didnt hear about the storms... you got any links online regarding it??

glad to see the kittens are doing well!!

Hi

We are considering booking this hotel for a week next September, but can only find Olympic who feature this hotel, and they are completely full apart from a maisonnette with pool for the dates we want. Have looked on the hotel's website and availability is no problem with the hotel direct. It also seems to be cheaper, we are considering a superior garden view room. Has anyone booked direct with them and what kind of service did you receive? Have been reading through the threads and lots of problems with overbooking seem to occur through the travel companies.

Any advice/help would be much appreciated on the hotel and room types.

We travelled there with First Choice, and there were Thomas Cook guests there too - have you tried them? If not, I would suggest booking direct; we spoke to a number of people there who had done so, and didn't hear of any problems.
Reply
Thanks, yes, we have tried both Thomas Cook and First Choice and they either are not featuring hotel for 2007 or their allocation is full also!! Cadogan is another one but I believe they only travel from Gatwick, and we live in the North, but they don't come on line until December/January.
