My wife and I (we are both aged 32) are looking to visit Elounda next year. I wondered if anyone could advise me rough cost of living in the area and whether there are plenty of choice of nightlife and also nice public beaches?
We are looking to stay at Elounda Palm Hotel?

Thankyou

Elounda is a lovely village with a really nice beach but don't go there at all if you want nightlife I've stayed over there the odd evening with friends and I'll be polite and say it's sleepy in the evening.

Elounda in general is not a very buzzing place to go for night life but good enough for drinks, bars, eating etc.
regarding accommodation. to many possibilities to pick from.
elounda palm is the last 2-3 years changing as a hotel (inside out). each year they make improvements. if i remember correct from what the manager told me last year this winter they will fix up the simply rooms.
pay a visit to their website to see.
palm though is not the most lux hotel in elounda. there are better ones (thus more expensive to).

Elounda is very quiet. The only place we found where we could have a bit of a dance was almost the last restaurant opposite the beach going towards Plaka. They did a lovely BBQ, played Greek music and had greek dancing then much later put some modern stuff on. We had a great time but that was for only one night! (think it was actually run by english people). It is a very lovely sleepy Greek village. We loved it as it was so quiet.

Hello Milo
Just noticed this post. We stayed at Elounda Palm Hotel in June on the premise that is was for "couples and families looking to get away from it all". We booked with Airtours but Direct Holidays part of the same group decided to put put 8 teenagers "allocated on arrival" in our hotel. They were a nightmare with noise and antics and we felt we had to avoid the pool area which was a pity as it was really nice. You must try The Tryst restaurant a few minutes walk down the road. Jim and Elaine are from Edinburgh and the food is gorgeous. We ate here about 5 times and they helped us out when I went over on my ankle supplying ice and phoning taxis. Another night they gave us a lift home. The walk into town does become a tad waring over the 2 weeks though

Hi there

I have booked a last minute holiday to Elounda for the end of June and wondered if anybody would mind giving some tips on what to see / do / where to eat? Are there any traditional items the island is famous for?

Have never been to Crete before, usually go to Kefalonia which i adore but thought a change would be good!

Any advice very much appreciated.

Thank you :D

Hello
We were in Elounda last year. We wanted to see it after watching A Place In Greece on C4 and everyone we met was talking about it! We found it very windy no good for contact lens wearers like myself. Would go back for a week but found a fortnight a bit long. The flight was a nightmare I did not realise Malia was the party capital and the plane was full of drunken chavs and the transfer back to the airport was held up while they finished off their beers! It was worse than the midnight flight to Gran Canaria from Glasgow and that is saying something!
Friends is a nice bar in the square and the complimentary snacks are a meal in themself! You must try The Tryst for a meal it is on the way out of Elounda towards Agios Nikolaos. Jim & Elaine are excellent hosts and the food is superb. Agios Nikolaos is nice for lunch also we went to Twins and La Strada.

To eat a fish go to Plaka area. Very good fresh fish! Agios Nikolaos is worth seeing. Spinalonga island sure. Go To Lassiti and zeus cave. Go to Vai beach and there are many places to see by car or excursions.
Elounda is the best place in Crete to stay i think even i love the whole crete very much! u will have great holiday!
