Hi Helen - I used to suffer with bloatedness, but I always take Windeeze capsules with me now when we go away :D

Only one solution. Stop stuffing your face with food and drink. Everything in moderation.

But that's what holidays are for - stuffing yourself - and she who stuffeth will naturally puffeth :!: Peppermint tea is recommended for this, you can buy a box in any supermarket, it's nice too.

shirley h - how I agree with you - but if bloatedness is the problen it will go away when you go home.
From a 15 and half stone FATTIE I am a now a 9 and bit something THINNIE - and it is brilliant. Bright pink skin tight jeans - black and white skinny tops - bikinis with no over hang.
ZIP your mouth no matter where you are - it works wonders - take some fat photos whilst in your hokiday bikini and you will be ashamed of the fat.

I don't think Helen was talking about being overweight just feeling bloated. What has that got to do with Helens original question.
Feeling bloated has got nothing to do with being overweight. I am 5' 10" and a size 12 and I also wear a bikini with no 'overhang' but I often feel like Helen whilst on holiday.

Helen I think the main reason people feel like this when in a foreign country is because food is cooked in different oils to what our bodies are normally used to and we are probably eating things that we would not normally eat on an everyday basis whilst at home.

At christmas while we were away I felt like this after about 3 or 4 days. It did ease a lot after about a week. We were away for three weeks so I think by the middle of the second week by body was getting used to the changes and I was fine after this. I think when you go away for two weeks and you start feeling like this after a few days then it can take a week or so for it to ease by which time you are coming home so you feel you have been this way for the whole holiday.

Helen - pop into your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist. There could be a number of reasons for this and they will be able to advise you on the best treatment even something herbal if that seems the best way to deal with it. Hope you get some relief soon and look forward to enjoying your holiday.

I find that if I drink as much water on holiday as I do at home (1 - 2 ltrs of water per day), I do not suffer from bloating.

No-0ne has mentioned the heat. various parts of the body do swell with the heat. A lot of people have trouble with feet or ankles swelling in the heat. Also, many people's rings feel tighter as their fingers swell in the heat. So it could be that the stomach suffers too.

By the way my comment about Helen stuffing her face was meant to be a light hearted joke (not meant to offend). There is nobody who enjoys their food (and drink) as much as me.

I agree with Joolz, peppermint tea bags they are very good to releive wind  .
I always drink one first thing in a morning and whilst at work, but without a doubt always take them away with us for our first cuppa of the day.

It actually stipulates on the box it aids digestion.

Give it a go

good luck

Good point. I went to Crete last year and really suffered with my ankles and feet, infact we laughed about it saying I'd got elephantitus saying that though it was really uncomfortable, I literally spent one day just wallowing in the pool as that just relieved it.

My Mum was a very slim lady and whenever she went abroad she always got very bloated and had problems with her feet and ankles too, I don't think over induldging is always the case :D

Thanx all ! Can't say I'm a lover of herbal teas, but I'll certainly give the peppermint one a go - and NO I am NOT fat and even if I was bloatedness is a completely different thing.

Apple, cider vinegar tablets available from health shops are good for getting rid of excess fluid.

a cork up your bottom might help the wind problem! :D :D
i get the same to be honest, i am quite adventurous and always eat the local food rather than english stuff, for the first few days i always feel bloated and windy, but it normally rights itself after that.
just enjoy yourself, and if anything pops out - look round and innocently ask who it was :D

White, stodgy bread makes people bloated.

On holiday you eat out a lot more and more often than not nibble on the bread that they put on the table at meal times. Washed down with a few lagers, this is a pure recipe for a bloated tummy.
