What about suit carriers... we will have a kilt carrier tube attached to it, which will be a pretty odd shape to try and get into overhead locker!!!! Have weighed this and its within the 7kg but as I say an odd shape. Thanks for replies.

Hi,

We're booked on the following: ("manage my booking" on emirates.com shows all these to be bulkhead rows)

MAN-DXB 777-300ER (2 class?) 7H & 7K
DXB-JNB 777-300ER (3 class) 17H & 17K
CPT-DXB 777-300ER (3 class) 17H & 17K
DXB-LHR A380 43 H & 43K

The middle seat in these rows is designated a bassinet seat and cannot be booked online, that's why we're not in J&K. (hope to swap seats with anyone seated in the middle... my husband is 6'4" - bulkhead much appreciated...)

However, when I look at the seat map from "our fleet" it seems the bulkheads are row 8 (not 7) and row 16 (not 17) (no map for the A380, but seatguru shows 43 as bulkhead).

Isn't it odd that 8J and 17J would be designated bassinet seats if not in a bulkhead row?

I'd like to be sure I've booked bulkhead seats or if I'm being fooled by "manage my booking"!

Thanks from a first-time Emirates flyer!

meerkat68,

Welcome onboard :tup
If you've 'selected your seat' using Emirates 'manage my booking', you can be pretty confident you've got the seats you want as they'll be using the seat maps for the specific aircraft assigend to your flight. You can't always rely on Seat Guru's and other third party seat maps, there are odd mistakes in them whereas EK's should be correct! A word of warning with bulkhead seats; although they have more room on paper, the seats are slightly narrower than standard seats (as the tray table and IFE screen fold out from the armrest) and you can't extend your legs fully because of the bulkhead. They do provide greater seat pitch than standard though.

Thanks for that very quick response!
I do want to trust the "select my seat" but I was a bit worried since the discrepancy was actually within Emirates.com ("manage my booking" vs. "our fleet").

Does this mean that aircraft of the same type have varying seat configurations, i.e. the "our fleet" seatmaps won't be valid for all 777-300ER aircraft?
Thanks again!

meerkat68,

EK use all the 777 passenger varients and have generic seat maps for all of them (the ones on their website). The seat maps you've seen on 'manage my booking' should be the standard for the aircraft you are travelling on but with the introduction of newer aircraft and seating as the fleet has grown, there's inevitabely odd changes over the years.

Emirates raises Birmingham capacity

Business class capacity from Birmingham is being hiked by 39% this summer by Emirates.

A second Boeing 777-300ER will be introduced on the airline's twice-daily service to Dubai from June 1.

This will increase the total number of business class seats a day from 69 to 96 and the number in economy from 651 to 710.

Overall, it represents a total capacity increase across all classes of 11%.

The new aircraft type is being introduced on the evening departure from Birmingham, which is currently operated by smaller Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

A 777 already operates a daily lunchtime flight.

The airline's UK regions manager Laurie Berryman said: "Despite the challenging economic conditions, travellers in the Midlands remain keenly aware of the benefits of Emirates' worldwide network.

"Over the last few months demand has continued to grow on the Birmingham route, necessitating an increase in capacity to meet the surge in passenger numbers."

Just returned from NZ via Dubai and Sydney. We were worried about bags being overweight and amount of hand luggage. GOing, we had over 7kgs in hand luggage, and only at one stop was one of our bags weighted, in Aukland on way back and it weighed in at 12 kgs but nothing was said.... at Dubai on way back our cases weighed over 20kgs each but again was overlooked. Got to say we got excellent service both check in and flights, but the 777-200 better than 777-300 for short folk... on the 300 our feet didnt touch the floor so very uncomfortable journey, also the 200 better for inflight entertainment. All round though good service. Oh, one other thing, we booked our seats online and dont know what happened but only the first leg of journey we got the seats requested. We had chosen seats very near back of the plane where they went in to 2- 4 - 2 so we got a wider aisle and reckon they were best seats on plane.

SHould also mention that each of us had two pieces of hand luggage, it handbag plus trolley case/backpack or camera bag etc.

geemac,

GLA-DXB-MLE (EK028/658) are operated by a Boeing 777-300/ER. Depending on your return flight, presumably EK656/027, they're 777-300 and 777-300/ER respectively. Did you book flights online? If so, you'll be able to select your seats. If not, if you have a booking reference for Emirates (you might be given this information through Amadeus depending on who you booked with), you'll be ble to check-in online and select your seats 24 hours before the departure time.

geemac,

Amadeus is a flight distribution sytem used by airlines / agents where you can retrieve flight booking details such as airline booking reference numbers. If you're given one, you can get your Emirates booking information and then check-in online.

We are considering booking with Emirates from Glasgow to Mumbai (then we will book internally for onward travel to Goa).

This is the departure times:

EK 501 BOMBAY(BOM) TO DUBAI(DXB) 13DEC 0415 - 13DEC 0600 ALAMD18

EK 27 DUBAI(DXB) TO GLASGOW(GLA) 13DEC 0720 - 13DEC 1125

I was a bit concerned because the arrival in Dubai is 0600 and departure for Glasgow is 0720. We've never done this before, does anyone know if its enough time? 1 hour and 20 minutes doesnt seem a lot to me :think

Gemma33,

It's normally recommended to allow 1.5 hours as a minimun between flights to allow for delays, but I'm sure that'll be fine otherwise they wouldn't allow the itinerary. I normally allow 2 hours for connections just in case but Emirates normally run like clockwork. You'll be through checked to you don't need to worry about baggage, just transfer to your onward flight.
