It is with sadness that I wish to inform the members of the Costa Blanca forum of the death of Mr Eric Allen.
Eric aged 63, peacefully passed away in Benidorm last week, he leaves behind his devoted wife, 4 children and 3 grandchildren.
After visiting several times, Eric decided to settle in Benidorm around 1985, and he started out by employing people to go up and down the coast selling commodities like "Mothers Pride" Bread and "Ben Shaw's" Pop.
He went on to open the Flying Handbag/ Bar Chicago on Calle Lepanto, next to Sandra bar and his son will now continue in Eric's footsteps.
I met him only twice, but I immediately came away knowing, that I had met a true gentleman ....here is a true story.
He once arrived for work early in the morning and discovered a Scottish couple asleep in an old Volvo outside the bar. He asked them why and they told him that they had been badly let down after been offered entertainers jobs in Salou.
It transpired that they had given up their homes and travelled down there, to find the place was boarded up and there were no jobs, so they had decided to go to Benidorm to see if there were any prospects there instead.
He immediately offered to let them sleep in the bar that evening and the next day he found them an apartment and gave them both jobs in the bar.
On behalf of Sue Allen, I would like to thank everyone for their concerns over the last few difficult months when dad's health was deteriorating, especially Lizzie Dripping and Taggy.
I send my sincere condolences to the members of Eric's family and leave you with the words from his last e-mail to his daughter Sue.
What peace really looks like....

Thinking of sue and her family at this sad time.
They also met up with my sister and I the next day for coffee. My sister, feeling hungry ordered a full breakfast and when she came to pay, David wouldn't hear of it, how kind They are such a lovely couple as I'm sure most of you would imagine given how much Sanji goes out of her way to help people on this forum. What you see is what you get and I instantly liked what I saw, 2 very genuine caring people.
God Bless to you both.
Sue and Family
sorry to hear of your fathers passing away
my deepest sympathies to you and you family

Thinking of you Sue.
During our Hols at Christmas I stupidly either lost or had my purse stolen, most likely the latter, anyway on my return I put on the forum explaining what had happened and mentioned the place where it had gone missing, and stated I thought this could be something that happened regulary at this bar.
Sue got in touch with her dad and he went out of his way see if he could find anything out sending Sue numerous emails, he did think there was something shady about the chap I thought had took my purse. I jokingly nick named him Eagle Eye Eric which he found amusing. He did this for someone he had never met and at a time when he wasn't very well.
From talking to Sue over the past few months it seemed he fought his illness and pain with great dignity and tried to be as strong as he could for his family.
RIP Eric
