I can't help with the hotel I'm afraid but can understand your apprehension- I felt the same the first time we went. I now force myself to book somewhere else apart from Thailand Where are you staying in Bangkok?

I don't think you need worry too much, hotel standards in Thailand are very high especially at the top end.

I have the same probelm as Fiona. I've been to the Caribbean a few times but much to prefer to go East these days.

Hi thanks for that. We are staying at the bel-aire princess in Bangkok. We didnt want anything too up market here as we thought we would splash out on the hotel in Phuket. We too have always done the caribbean before for many years but thought Thailand would give us some culture and relaxation when we want it.

There are still some fab places in the caribbean but it has taken just one hotel to put us off as we were treated appallingly and now it is in the news - Bahia PrincipeSan Juan - well we werent surporised - so, apprehensive but looking forward to Thailand.

It's OK, I went in November for a visit. It's not as good as other Evason's (they took over an existing hotel) and rooms in the main building are quite small, the hotel can get really busy, and the beach is really small (but they can get you across to Bon Island their private island quite easily). But, you do get the Evason name for a fraction of the price.

I would recommend you compare against the Chedi - probably similarly prices, slightly more stylish , better location, and practically a private beach (which is rare). However, it's the 'least good' of the Chedi's if you have stayed at other Chedi's because the rooms need a big overhaul.

But I would not stay at the Evason Phuket if I had a choice of the two.

Hi Yep got the Thailand bug again. This year we go for three weeks to Hua Hin, Koh Samui and back to Bangkok. Does anyone know what the Evason at Hua Hin is like or the Bandara at Koh Samui?

Evason Hua Hin...Not been but as it used to be the Club Aldiana Siam which I've been past a few times its worth noting its miles away from Hua Hin...approx 40 mins by taxi.

There are 2 Evason's at Hua Hin - The Evason & The Hideaway. They are both back to back so you can share facilities. Both hotels are purpose built (and not taken over like the one in Phuket) and I would say better than the Phuket Evason. Personally I'm a fan of the Aleenta in Hua Hin.

Bandara - I have seen but cannot remember it - so there you go - unmemorable!

Went to Phucket's Evason Resort in October 2007.

Was the best hotel i have ever been to.

The private Island is absolutley brilliant, big island and max 25 people on it at a time with free canooeing and games on offer.

Hotel is very clean, modern and rooms are ace ( i stayed in a deluxe room as i got a free upgrade when booking). The hotel is expensive and i was told it did use to be all inclusive but not any more.

Do go but if you do, dont eat at the restaurant as it is way expensive (like 25 for two meals) so go to the local town get a tut tut (bout 5 quid) and go eat in a little restaurant which is about 3 pound each!

Patong is the place to go, great night life even got a rock city with a metallica tribut band their! and very cheap, look for a restaurant called the london restaurant, very good indian food, best i ever had.

Always barter, you wil get them down at least 50% on the stalls and shops! beware of going in a shop and they asking you for dvds (bootlegs aswell, no original western dvds in phuket!). they are bout 1 pound each but you are like forced to buy one! and then they dont play in the hotel as they are not dvd players, they are vcd players and the libary has a good collection of free films but alot are now old and skip alot.

Thanks but went to evason in Phuket last year and I agree it is a fab hotel. Still would like to know about Evason in Hua Hin and Bandara in Koh Samui.
