I have just returned from a villa holiday in Spain. The owner has retained 150 euros of my 300 euros deposit as he maintains that the villa required extra cleaning on our departure. He admits there was no damage or breakages. His reasons for the extra charges are that we did not clean the bathrooms, the floors were dirty, the towels and bathmats were dirty and the cooker needed cleaning. The cost of the 6 bed villa of 1,250 euros for 7 days included a charge for a final clean after our departure.
If cleaners are paid around 10 euros per hours this 150 extra charge represents an additional 15 hours cleaning.
As he already has my money and will not answer my e-mails asking for a breakdown of the cleaning charges I feel there is little I can do.
Cany anyone help?
If he's foreign then I doubt there will be anything you can do. The website where you got the Villa details from, does it have a feedback page as I know some do?
Outrageous!!! We had a similar experience in France and that was with tents. We were the last people in them before they were taken down for the end of season....they wanted to retain our deposit because there were some blades of grass on the ground sheet, not clumps of grass just the odd tiny bit here and there!! My friend even washed her ground sheet and they still weren't satisfied...we stood our ground (literally!!) and got the deposit back but it wasn't a great end to the holiday. I would complain to whoever you booked through (unless it was a private rental??) may not do any good, but worth a try.
