A very good resource if you want to research Famagusta is the Return to Varosha Group. There are many photos and memories there. As well as both Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot members.

Varosha is the Greek name for the part of Famagusta that is currently inaccessible. The Turkish name for it is Maras.
I have visited Famagusta, whilst staying in the South, a few times now.
Some video of one of our trips may be found here. You may need to download Google Video.

recommend the above mentioned message board - a lot of photos and information. Also try this link. if you're in Agia Napa pop down to the Capuccino Inn and have a chat with Zissis. he can tell you loads more
Please try and stay neutral about Maras/Varousha until you have read up on both sides. The Greek Cypriots still organise day tours to this area and will tell the tourists that this is where the Turkish Army bombed the Greek Cypriots and have refused to give it back. The Greek Cypriots will tell the tourists about what a terrible time they had and that the Turkish Army had no right to interfere. What the Greek Cypriots will not tell the tourists is that the Greek Cypriots were killing the Turkish Cypriots, destroying complete towns and villages and whole families. The Turkish Army stepped in as a last resort to stop the genocide.
I agree Xenmia, I am very much a Cpriot lover but would never ever presume to 'take sides' in a very tragic political situation of which, as a holidaymaker, I cannot possibly sit in judgement on.
