cant tell you about the apts but you should enjoy pernera especially the restaurants

The Farkonia apartments are situated next to the Pernera beach hotel .
and share a lovely bay on either side with this hotel and the Golden Coast,

The only down side is the bay on the Golden coast side has been earmarked for developemnt of villas and apartments, There was a discussion about this the other week on the http://www.cypruseastern.com if you access the link select main forum and go to the bottom of the index page and type Marlita into the search box it will bring up the discussion, as the member originally thought it was the Marlita beach near the Anastatia. It appears the ground has been marked out for the project and has gone on sale with Buysell . Tsokkos one of the biggest hotel owners is the developer they are now turning to private builds .

Hi Dave.
I am getting ready to fly of again at the end of this month, we are of to visit our place just like to keep an eye on it...

The weather is not so good at the moment there was snow and hail in Larnaca yesterday, some streets were flooded in Protaras and Ayai Napa. but it soon passes.
Thats a shame that you cant get back this year, I went in the middle of July last year and thought it was not to bad, I think you get used to it after a few days. With younger children, it might be different, my daughter is thinking of going over for all the school break this summer so i will let you know what she thinks about it being to hot for the children.
Where will you go this year?

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for the link it looks as though the development may not be too intrusive on our holiday.I know that in some tourist resorts in other countrys building work is prohibited during the summer season is this the case in Cyprus?
Generally speking my wife and I go to Turkey each year, but not this year, so my degree of ignorance about Cyprus is pretty comprehensive!LOL! So let's start with important matters, what is the local beer called? how much a pint? Nice meal for 2 (no wine, it gives me a headache!)?Whilst there we hope to take the 2 day trip to Egypt, can this be bought locally? always found it cheaper than travel agency reps! Thank you!

Hi Alistair

It usually takes a while for the developements to get up and running, I am over in a fortnight if I get time I will take a look. I am not sure about not building in the summer season, but most of the builders do shut down for 3 weeks in August as its to hot.

As for dining out there is a very good selection in Pernera the local beer is Keo but my husband and his friends prefer Leon which is local as well, It's around £1.60 cy pounds a pint i think I, but you can buy large bottles in Orphanides for around 70 cents,

I think you will findCyprus is dearer than Turkey, trips to Egypt can be purchased locally as with car hire. You can also take trips across to the North but be warned you can not bring much back at the moment I think its 40 cigs. Due to the political situation they are very strict at the crossing, you can cross at Ayia Nicholas which is about 15 mins from Pernera by car.

take a look at this site Marion set it up and its great it covers all the area you are staying in and have a look at the recommendations on where to eat on the Cyprus Eastern site.

hi!

Thanks to all for the responses, funnily enough I will miss my Efes beer this year, think it is the combination of sun and good company which makes it taste so good! We guessed that Cyprus will be more expensive than Turkey and that is fine, to be forewarned! The Egypt trip is the only excursion we'll be doing must confess really looking forward to it, although feel a bit of a " Turkey traitor!" LOL!Elizabeth if you are in the area that would be very kind of you, just reading some reviews and I think i'm more concerned about the noise level genorated by " Crown resort ?" don't know if the Farkonia is within amplifier distance of this hotel?!LOL! Once again thanks to all!

i can confirm there will be plenty of noise from the elamaris up to @12.30 but quite how near you are i dont know, if you liked efes then there is every chanceyou will like the local brew but be warned it is 20% dearer in hotels all elizabeth says and she knows a trip to the orphanides is well worth it, check out the church next door it is beautiful

You can get efes in Cyprus, but you have to go North.

Alistair and Helen,
It was probably one of my reports you read regarding the noise in this area absoloutley horrendous...... We stayed in the Windmills which is right next to the Elemaris but the noise does not just come from there it also comes from Knights Pub , Windmills and all the surrounding bars.. all competing with each other to see who can be the loudest in terrible kareooke.

To get to the Farkonia you turn down at the windmills and its a few hundred yards. behind the Windmills and the Elemaris we were in rooms at the back of the Windmills that looked over to the Farkonia and I can also confirm the noise was the worst we have ever expeirenced in all our holidays abroad, but the good news is Pernera is a nice resort with good eating places and lovely little bays the Farkonia sits right in the middle of the 2 bays, I think you will hear some noise but maybe not as bad as we did. If you are a party animal then it wont be a problem

PS this was a reason for us buying a place to get away from all the noise  our stay in the Windmills made us sign on the dotted line pronto

Hi!

I'm never sure whether the hotel or apartment staff genuinely think that it's what we the customer wants or whether it is just that, a contest between restaurants and hotels to see who is the loudest. Personally i don't mind a bit of music whilst enjoying a beer or a meal, however if it is blasting we tend to go find somewhere a little quieter! yip! I know! I guess I'm just an old fuddy duddy!LOL!We have requested a quiet room so we will see what happens. Helen will be less than delighted if it is really noisy as I keep telling her that her epitaph will be:

"turn that ............. thing down"!LOL! Regardless though we will have a good time!

We can all cope with "a bit of music" Alistair... This part of Pernera really does have to be heard to be believed.

There are a lovely couple of bars opposite, that really are spoiled by the dreadful row coming from across the road. We sat in one once - not for long! - and watched the faces on the newly arriving guests at Windmills. Cruel I know - but it was a picture

Do you know what ? - We bought too! Must be part of Cyprus' marketing plan

Oh dear lol The good news is there has been lots and lots of villas built in this area , so if the owners complain to the police about the noise they might just turn it down. I think you can buy earplugs in the Pharmacy lol

We had never stayed in this area of Pernera driven through in the daytime and thought how nice it was, stopped in the Anastatia the time before at the opposite end which was ok and not much noise despite an all night bar in the Marlita beach Hotel right next to out room but suprisingly we did not really hear much noise at all.

We were probably one of the guests you were watching.

To be honest I don't think you will be bothered too much with noise from any of the places mentioned.I've stayed in Captain Pier Apts,Debbiexennia Apts and Annais Bay Hotel, all in the area you are thinking of going to and was never bothered by noise from any other complex or bars.I would think any problem will come from the place you are staying at usually. If it's piece and quiet you are looking for I would normally recommend the Captain Pier but going by the photo on the related link above it looks like the planned housing is going to be right across the road from here, which is a pity as I'm sure this will have an effect on the beach and area around.
I would also recommend Annais Bay for a quiet, good clean and friendly accomodation but you seem as though you want self catering. There is also a small apartment block directly across the road from here, the name escapes me but someone will know. The Kama Apartments at the top of the hill on the main Pernera road is also good, clean and close to the action but far enough away from the noise.Check out the Libra brochure as the have a good selection of places in Pernera.
