The best Greek fast food is a gyros me Pitta - think kebab but healthier and tastier!

The local burger chain is Wendy's - if you must.

As you're going all inclusive, when you do get out of the compound try a bit of local life, after all that's why yu're not going to Torquay....isn't it??!

Depends where you will be going. Big Macs are everywhere, never seen a KFC though. If you need a fast food fix I'd recommend a Greek take away, Giros, Souvlaki, burgers and more, much nicer!!

If you are out driving about and feel a bit peckish and see a roadside shack, some times with a sign 'ΚΑΝΤΙΝΑ' (luckily the Greek letters are the same as English if upper case, lower case is 'Καντίνα' stop and try the souvlaki, with a few chips, it will probably be the best you will ever taste. All the locals will eat at these places so the food is good, not the the same as the 'Greek' food in tourist resorts!!!

This is making me hungry, I'm off!!

When we stopped in Stalis there was a king Burger fast food outlet, it was the same as Burger King at home.

In Chania town there is a "Goodies". Similar to MacD etc. but much better with a salad bar and pasta etc. When the children were younger that was their treat, as they got a bit fed up with Greek food for two weeks so one visit was always on the list. By the way there is a very good cinema in Chania too, English films with Greek subtitles and they get the latest films before the UK too., great experience and worth a visit.

I'm sure once you've tasted the traditional Greek food in Crete you won't want to ever buy a 'junk food fix' again.

Too true, the food throughout the Med, in particularly Greece, is as good as it gets.

I know this might be considered a touch off topic but I cannot understand the urge to eat what is termed fast food and what others call junk food. How can mashed up pig, cow and sheep brains and bits of offle which form burgers really be so sought after!

As eat that stuff you may as well smoke 40 B&H a day and drink 10 pints of cider by each lunch time and go out with a bang aged 40.

I have a theory, which is I admit a little subjective, so by all means shoot me down! The majority of people who fall ill or claim to be ill on holiday do so within the first 48 hours and the flying fickle finger of blame usually points in the direction of the Holiday Hotel, local water (bottled or otherwise), fresh fruit or local Taverna. My theory is that the majority of "holiday ailments" originate from the aircraft (recycled air packed with one virus or another from as little as 2 co-travellers) and the junk that people cram down their throats at Motorway stops pre airport or at the airport itself. OK, a few beers is acceptable, as is a bite to eat but I have genuine doubts about food handling in an area where no one can ever be culpable for a dodgy regime as the clients pass through within a matter of 3 hours.
Eat fast food at the likes of Gatwick or Motorway stop offs pre airport where the regime can afford to be bad and where the clients/customers are often thousands of miles away within 5 or so hours, or someone with a virus (need only be 1 out 250 passengers) passing it around an aircraft via recycled air and before you can say "KOSMAR really do care" someone is feeling ill 12 - 24 hours into the holiday and its a case of hey presto "the hotel is dodgy" or the "fruit is contaminated" or the "taverna is dirty" or the "water is poison" followed by the comment; "Greece" or "Turkey" or "Spain" or the "Canaries" ....................... "never again", "I will stick to Bognor next time", and to that there is no truer statement providing you dont fly to Bognor or stop off at Motorway rip off stops and eat junk!

Apparrantly the ailment most likely to be spread on aircrafts are cold sores, and I am told that is a fact!

Personally I hate fast food places... hubby likes them now and again for a treat (I ask you - theres got to be better stuff to eat) but whilst in Greece we do what the Greeks do. Now the kids are grown up we dont have to worry and love to try everything Greek. Hubby likes a whole table (and I mean table) full of starters.. We even eat Greek at home most of the time. I went to Turkey last year and a lady in the hotel told me the food was horrible, it was all turkish. Well, there was nothing Turkish about it (cauliflower cheese and brussel sprouts, thats why the food was bad!) I dont go abroad to eat what I can have at home personally. I love to try all things local! Kleftiko and Guvetsi, cheese pies, souvlaki...... here I come!

Incidentally, we have never had any tummy upsets. We eat a lot of olive oil at home anyway so are adapted to it before we are away and are careful with the water. Even then we have drunk the water from the tap in Crete, it comes down from the mountains. Its not that the water is dirty - it just has different minerals to what we are used to and that is what can cause tummy upsets apparently.

I haven't seen BK or KFC here but in Heraklion there's a MacDonalds or two should you want such stuff.

To me the best fast food in Crete is the humble Giros Pita (about Euro 2.50) which is a spiral pita bread filled with salad, chips, mayo and slices of meat) - one of those is food for a day though what my doctor would say about it is another matter! Very very filling, for UK 1 quid 75!

Best place for Giros is near Fountain Square, Heraklion; they have orange chairs - sorry can't think of the name if it has one!

Oooh Brett - I've already got that "joint" down for my pre bus snack on 3 June! If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's still stacked out at 2 am!

There are two next to each other; one with orange chairs, one with blue. Anyway I am on 6995 792970 if you want to eat some time! I can just about afford Eur.2.50 as I am but a humble horse worker ;o)

I don't know if it's still there but there was a Mc Delly's in Hersonossos in 2001 on the main road.Only went there once as we are not fast food fans but have to say the food was really good.

I visit Chania regularly and I must agree that sometimes you just don't fancy a full Greek meal. Do what the locals do and hit one of the fast food joints. The gyro's are good and I very often have a pizza in "Ciao" at the bottom of Halidon near the harbour.

I see many of my Cretan friends enjoyin fast food - it's not all that americanised junk!

By the way Domino's has hit town as well!!
