I love to try the local dishes from wherever we go. Probably why I put on half a stone each time we go away . Some of my favourite foods-
giros in Greece
tapas in Spain( and nothing beats a really good paella!)
beef rendang in Singapore
Tom Kha Gai in Thailand( chicken, lemongrass and coconut milk soup)
What are your favourites?
I would never touch a hamburger over here but have had some great ones in the States and Canada (not from chain restaurants I may add).
Went out to dinner here on Saturday night at a hotel and the steak wasn't tough, but it wasn't tender and was completely tasteless.

Goat stifado in Greece. I might accept lamb as a substitute if all the goats have run away.
papas arrugadas and mojo verde (little salty potatoes with green garlicky sauce) - I always buy a few bottles of mojo sauce to bring home, they only sell it in the Canaries, so we have to go at least once a year to keep my cupboard stocked up
Canary Islands - Melt in the mouth lamb stifado in Paxos
Garlic butter tiger prawns in Goa
Closer to home, crab salad and granary bread in Cornwall.
In Goa - the prawns and naan bread,
Canary Islands - papas arrugadas and mojo verde (little salty potatoes with green garlicky sauce)
MMMMMMMMMM, I remember those, tried to reproduce them back home, but not the same.
Also lurv Moussaka.
Salzburger Nockerl and Kaiserschmarrn, both delicious, best to share as large portions are served.
Every day the waitress would tell us the special and every day it was jerk chicken, rice and peas!
Greece - mousaka (I must have it for my dinner the first night we are there) and giros
China - jasmine tea
Spain - tapas and paella oh and catalan creme
Italy - pasta (any form and lots of it!!)
Prague - mulled wine (hmm, so warming)
Cyprus - meze
USA - the pancakes & fresh strawberies I had in the Swedish Bakery in Tiburon (it makes my nouth water every time I think about them!)
Portugal - olives (I've never liked them anywhere else we've been but these were gorgeous)
Hi puddleduck Loved your selection, making me hungry now
I try all sorts of things wherever I go. Black Forest gateaux from the black forest will ensure that you never have it again in this country - just doesn't compare!
Chilli crab in Singapore.
Menemem in Turkey (scrambled eggs with tomatos and onions).
Paella and tapas in Spain.
Moules in France and of course crepes.
Fries and mayonnaise in Belgium.
Proper pizza in Italy, not a deep pan or stuffed crust in sight!
I haven't tried it but one day I will revisit the USA and will have pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup.
Cheers SandC
Thailand...Pad Thai, Tom Yam and twenty or thirty other dishes whose names elude me.
