Yes good luck Toe, Milliem eg i cannot answer that but i for one am going to ake these tabs which can be bought here for a few rupees, there seems to be a distinct lack of 'true' communicatioon between Uk and here re all theses things ie malaria, Filaria, afterall i have now heard of 3 peole with this deadly new strain of Malaria here this year, one lady was being medi vac'd back to Holland and was so ill they said she still might die in next 12 days, this came directly from her husband!! but when i ask the chemists and people they dont seem to know about it.... but i have heard this now from another couple English too (one of them very ill) so it does raise alarm bells, all very worrying as i too have family coming out with kids in March i have now sent home malaria tabs for them alll, even though we have never as yet taken them
chilly :?

Chilly,Do you know the name of the tablets you are taking for Filaria? I work in a dispensary and might be able to find out a bit more about them and also what they might cost here. Thanks,Paula

Ive just checked my notes that the nurse gave me when I had some jabs last week.

It has: Filariasis (Bancrofti) as a *other* infection caused by mosquito a bite, causing fever and inflamation. Later with swelling and lymphoedema of the legs, arms or genitalia MAY develop after repeated infections. Usually not a problem for the short term traveller staying in good accommodation.

These notes give more information on Plasmodium Falciparum Malaria as the highest risk due to small clusters outbreaks this year in Goa.

I shall ask on Tuesday if they have any updated information on Filariasis, maybe the travax database that surgeries use isnt updated quick enough?

Toe, I hope you feel better and get it sorted out asap.. :)

Milliameg, good idea..:)
