Yes Travel Agent's are paid commission, but when I was a TA it was normally a maximum of £3 per adult. So you spend hours searching for the perfect holiday for a couple and getting it booked and on top of the pathetic £7-9k a year, you'll get a whole £6 commission - before deductions.

I think you are confusing the sales commission which Travel Agencies pay their staff for selling holidays on top of their salaries, with the commission that the tour operator pays the travel agency as a company for selling the holiday, (which is what I was talking about) which is more likely to be a premium of around 10-15% of the total holiday price.

I can honestly say though that when I was a TA the holiday was never 10-15% cheaper if you phoned the tour op direct. TA's wouldn't be in business otherwise. Obviously the net is different as there are less overheads etc.

If you have gone into a travel agent office, you want to buy a holiday. Therefore, you should give every bit of information possible. If you tell a couple that it is hurricane season when they want to go, are they then going to decide that they do not want the holiday? No.

They will decide whether to book another destination or most likely will take the risk. However, if you are going on holiday to get the sun, I would always check the weather reports and see what the weather is likely to be when I am there!
