Hi We are going on our first trip to Egypt in June, to Sharm el Sheik. Do we need a visa - we may be doing some excursions.
What is the best currency to take for tips etc. Is it best to change money to Egyptian before we go, or take sterling and change
it there. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
Hi Maudave , welcome to HT . You only need to buy the visa if travelling to Cairo or diving at Ras mohamed. You get a better exchange rate if you take sterling and change it there .Most hotels will have that facility or you can use ATMs .It's always best to tip in Egyptian pounds . A ten or twenty note is plenty (equivilent to a £ or 2) but if you don't have any when you arrive they are more than happy to accept £1 coins . They save them up and then exchange with tourists for £10 or £20 notes which they can then cash into their own currency.
You will find a lot of help and information in these existing topics -
