We are considering spending a week in Corfu, mid June. We are a married couple in our early 30's. We like nice beaches, good restaurants and bars, as well as some excursions. We have been to Zakynthos before, and really had a lovely time there.
What resort would you recommend we stay in?
What weather could we expect mid June?
Is Corfu reasonable when it comes to eating out?
Thanks
I think you'll find the weather and prices in Corfu are fairly similar to those in Zakynthos. In mid-June, you'll probably get temperatures in the mid 20's to low 30's.
There are literally dozens of different resorts to choose from, depending on your tastes and everyone has their own favourites. For detailed descriptions, take a look at the Corfu Resort Guide here
Elaine
Hi Elaine, many thanks for your reply. I'll have a look at that link you posted. From a quick glance on the net, I think we might like Kassiopi. Is there any resort you wouldn't recommend us to stay in (eg. Laganas in Zakynthos or Praia da Rocha, Algarve?).
From the examples you've given, I'd probably steer clear of Sidari and Ipsos and of course Kavos (but you probably already know about that one )
If you fancy somewhere a bit upmarket, have a look at St Stephanos East, or if you don't mind a quick hour's hydrofoil trip from Corfu town, try looking at Paxos, which is really gorgeous.
I went to Zakynthos 6 years running back in the 80's before it became really developed and loved it too, but in 1992 I "discovered" Paxos and now I can't keep away from it
Elaine
I've also been looking at Kassiopi. Do you know if that is a nice place to say, and of any accommodation you'd recommend there (or avoid )
Annie
Agree Paxos. Lovely place, especially for walking. You can get there from either side, Corfu or Parga. Good bus service, pleasant tavernas, boat trips and a couple of good beaches.
We stayed in Sidari last september we are in our 50's and don't like it too noisy, but Sidari suited us, we do like a bit of nightlife and there was enough but not too much in Sidari. We would go back again and probably will next year.

I love the suggestions of other islands, like Kefalonia and Paxos, but unfortunately we are limited when it comes to flights to the Greek Islands. Hopefully in the future our choices will be more varied
So, after much researching, we are definately going to stay in Kassiopi. We have narrowed our search down to the following properties, and I'd really appreciate any opinions on which of them to go for:-
Solaris Studio
Kalamionas Studio (no sea view)
Kassiopi Bay Studio (sea view)
Marika Apartments (sea view)
Thanks again for all the help
My husband and I love Corfu. We stayed most recently in Kassiopi and have contributed frequently to the Kassiopi thread in this forum. Have you considered the Dimas Studios and appartments, I submitted a review back in May in the Hotel Reviews section if you'd like to take a look.
The only negative side to Kassiopi ( if you can call it negative) is that there are only a couple of rocky coves there rather than any sandy beaches. Although we do enjoy the beach, the good points by far outweighed the bad.
Have fun!
Hi shirley h, thanks for your suggestion. Just yesterday we booked the Solaris for a week Really looking forward to the holiday now. Usually, we like a nice long sandy beach, but this year, as we only have 1 week, we don't mind that there isn't one. This holiday is going to be about seeing as much of Kassiopi and the surrounding area as possible, rather than just lounging on the beach all day. We are hoping to get to Corfu town and one of the nearby islands. I don't think we'll have enough time to do lots of sunbathing
Have you looked at Roda on the north of the Island?
It's a quiet and historic fishing village on the North Coast of Corfu, is a delightful holiday resort with a sandy beach and activities for all tastes and ages. There are many types of accommodation as well as gift shops, traditional Greek tavernas, restaurants and bars. Catering to every taste and age, the local people are second to none. Every visitor is made to feel welcome, and many return year after year, as they are treated like old friends.
There is a whole variety of accommodation to suit everybody, while the extensive selection of restaurants and bars cater to every visitors taste and need for entertainment.
The beach is wide and not crowded and is sandy. The sea gently deepens so is ideal for non-swimmers or just walking through before it gets deep enough to swim.
There is a good selection of activities; boat hire, water sports, boat trips, horse riding amongst the most popoular. The village is an ideal base for exploring with good, reasonable car/bicylce/scooter hire. The local bus service goes to the nearby town of Acharavi and Kassiopi to the east and Sidari to the west and also to Corfu Town, which has to be seen, refered to Venice without the water as the old town was built during the venetian occupation.
Prices in Roda are very comparable, making self-catering very affordable. Coffees and soft drinks are not over priced and there are good deals to find on cocktails once the sun goes down. Meals in restaurant vary, perhaps from 4 euros upwards for a main dish and portion sizes are good.
This is just a synopsis of what Roda has to offer, for a really good insight and contact details of accommodation look under officialroda in a search.
I hope you find your ideal holiday to Corfu.
I see you have booked the Solaris in Kassiopi. I don't know the accommodation and only visit Kassiopi on day trips. It is lovely little resort and I am sure you will have a great time there.
I suggest you will find it rather warmer in mid-June than artisans suggests.
We usually go to Corfu around the 15th -18th for 2 weeks and the last 3 or 4 years have been really hot with temperatures on some days hitting the UPPER 30's. Even the locals couldn't stand it. On several days 40degrees was recorded. In 2005 I was really ill for 2 days with heatstroke. Air-conditioning is advisable for a good night's sleep and also in the hire-car. We even resorted to driving around in the car with the air-con on full blast at 9pm at night !

Just wanted to add to Iluvsangeorge's comments about temperatures. Yes, the last couple of years the temperature in June has been exceptional, and definitely in the high 30s and in to the 40s. It's been great. The temperature quoted from Terra Kerkyra is taken as an average over the whole month, and after last year may need altering, but at least it shows the minimum that it could be.
Hopefully this year will see good temperatures again. So far the winter has not been very wet. Normally in January & February the Island receives about 1100mm of rain and so far there hasn't been much. In January there was barely a wet day, perhaps the odd shower, where normally the rain is so heavy, it is difficult to go out in. There has been more rain this month, but of course dry winters are a worry to the olive growers and press owners as the winter rains are required to swell the fruit.
Anyway, we are all hoping for a beautiful and hot season this year with good temperatures but don't forget the suncream!!!!
Best wishes
Julie
We have just under 3 months to wait. If ye don't mind, I might post looking for restaruant & bar recommendations before we go.
Thanks again for your help
We have been to Corfu 4 times now staying in Ipsos twice, Dassia and also kassiopi. We are a young 50s couple and recommend kassiopi. Nice and relaxed atmopshere good restaurants and bars lively or sedate depending on your mood. Only 40 mins into Ipsos if you wanted the nightlife of a teenager lol. Nice harbour area with bars and restaurants facing out to sea. Watch out for the fireflys of a night its an unbelievable sight seeing them flying around glowing in the dark.
Hope you have a great time weathers lovely from May onwards.
Yes I'd second Kassiopi - Corfu is the only Greek Isle where we have seen Fireflies (in June) which was amazing!
I've been to Corfu for the last 2 years (around June/July) the weather will be getting hotter and mosquito's will be around. If you are after a lively holiday then head to Sidari, Acharavi, Arillas or Kassiopi. Sidari is where there are some great bars, try Bolero's (on the main road) they do great food (plenty of it) and is generally a nice atmosphere. Try looking at ThomasCook.co.uk or Thomson.com they usually have great places to stay (they also provide holiday resort information). I'm going back to Sidari (35 days time) so a first at going in early season. I booked through libraholidays.co.uk. Also in Sidari they cater for all tastes in food whether it be authentic greek, indian, chinese, italian, english (there's even a McDonalds for that hangover in the morning). One piece of advice though do not book any trips via your Rep's they rip you off left right and centre, I always book mine through a local Agent (they are also more informative). Any other queries you can send me a private message. Take Care and Happy Holidays wherever you book. Best Wishes Lv Laura xxx [/u][/b]
We have been to zante and kos and loved it there. We are looking for something quieter this year tho, as we have normally been in lively places.
