Hi

We also like to be neara beach as we love to go snorkelling

That rules Luxor out, so your choices are down to either Hurghada or Sharm, take a look at these sites for a bit more info -

Hurghada is more relaxing and there is much less hassle than in Sharm, and IMHO a bit more up market than Sharm.

Hi, I go regularly to both Sharm and Hurghada and on balance have a soft spot for Hurghada. Both places feel completely different to each other and the atmosphere also varies depending on where you are staying within the resort - for example Sekala in Hurghada is very busy and bustling but Village Road area is (mostly) pedestrianised and quiet. In Sharm there are a lot of large, hotel based all inclusive hotels away from the centre and mainly B&B hotels (Marriott, Novotel, Maritim etc) in Naama Bay.

In general terms
Sharm has a more sanitised, less Egyptian feel than Hurghada.
Off beach snorkelling is generally better in Sharm than Hurghada (exception being Makadi Bay) where one normally takes boat trips to a reef or island.
Relatively few British go to Hurghada.
Hurghada better placed for coach travel to Luxor, approx 4 hours(Valley of Kings, Karnak Temple) and Cairo, approx 8 hours(museum and Pyramids).

Hope this helps a little.
