Julie that is not quite correct. I ordered with HSBC online for best rate, it came next day to my home free delivery.

I kept it on me not in luggage, brought back 100 Leva and exchanged it at teh Post Office. I would advise not changing out there as I found people saying they offered rubbish rates.

Julie,

We went to sunny beach in september and despite only a few days sun out of 2 weeks we had a brilliant time. We exchanged our money here with HSBC online and leftovers I changed at the post office on our return and got a better rate than I bought at(think the lady may have made a mistake).

We had no trouble at all with our suitcases at the airport, check in does take a little longer than here.

We found SB clean, beach was lovely, people friendly and we will definately return.

Hope this helps

Sharon

By the way which apt are you staying at?

Hi Julie dont worry about taking money out it used to be the case as Bulgarian Lev like Russian Roubles were a soft currency you could not get them outside the country or exchange them back, however now you have no such problems and can both get and exchange them before you go having said that dont worry about changing money over ther as long as you stick to banks or crown exchange offices. hope this helps

Hi Julie,

You can, as others have said, obtain Leva in the UK and can take up to 8,000 Leva (or the equivalent in other currency/travellers cheques) without declaration into or out of Bulgaria.

Full details on the Bulgarian Customs website HERE (about half-way down the page).

You can also use your cards over there. There are several ATMs in SB. Don't use the money changers on the streets they will rip you off. You've got till May so I suggest you read as many threads on here as possible. There are seperate threads for Bourgas airport for instance.
