Hi all, I was wondering if you could help me. The other half and I have decided on Tunisia for a weeks holiday in May and we have decided on PEK as our resort. We however can not decide what hotel to go for....We like the look of the Royal Kenz or the El Mouradi Port both AI. However we have read these hotels are quite abit out. The other option is HB at the Residence Golf which is more in the resort. Any comments or suggestions on any hotels would be much appreciated! Does anyone know an AI hotel close to the main resort??? We would go SC if food and drinks are reasonable priced
Thank you in advance
I stayed at the El Mouradi Port over New Year 05/06, when it was still the Sol El Mouradi. I'm not sure if anything else there has changed other than the name, but unless they've refurbished and improved other services - and judging by recent guest photos on Tripadvisor, this isn't the case - I would say you'll get more and better for your money elsewhere.
The plus points are that the hotel is on a lovely bit of beach, and there are a couple of pools and a good amount of terrace space. The biggest let downs were somewhat shabby rooms and the food. Other than an excellent New Year gala meal, the food was nowhere near the standard I've found in other hotels in Tunisia, including those of a lower star rating (I was surprised to see this hotel is a 4 star - I thought it was meant to be 3). Despite being on HB we ate out most of the time.
I'm not saying this is an awful hotel - but if you already have doubts based on location then I would go for one of your other options, as you really can get better.
As far as SC goes - you can eat out very reasonably, and drinks vary in how cheap they are depending on where you go and what your preferred drink is. Any foreign brands are generally expensive and as a general rule, the more stars a hotel has, the more expensive the drinks menu, even for the same items within the same hotel group.

thank you
is the El Mouradi Club a different hotel from the El Mouradi Port? thomas cook offer both but they look the same??
My friend stayed here 2 years ago and had nothing but praise for it.
I dont like AI but it was the only way I could get my husband to go as we have never been to Tunisia before
Its number 5 on Trip Advisor and is on HT as the Occidental Allegro Abou Sofiane. I did originally want to go to the Royal Kenz but I didnt like the idea of set sittings at meal times and its a fair distance from the Town.
The Abou Sofiane is about 15 minutes walk from the Marina.
I booked it with Portland as they were cheaper than Thomson and Thomas Cook.
Thank you, I have been reading up about that one on here, it does look good.
I have stayed at the Golf Residence..I would strike that one off your list, shabby, food not good, and adjoining a discoteque which is noisey until about 6am!!.Dont worry about staying further away from the port, there are also shops, restaurants and cafes also by them, and taxis are cheap, about 4 dinar to the marina,we used to walk oneway and taxi back. Also stay away from the Soviva Hotel, another one that isnt good.
I have heard only good things about the Hotel Kanta in PEK - the main drawback seems to be that it isn't directly on the beach. If this isn't a problem for you, it may be worth considering. It also has a self catering part - the Kanta Residence. I believe the Kanta is also closer to the Marina.

Can highly recommend Hotel Kanta......in fact I am off there in just over 8 weeks and can't wait!
Although it's not on the beach the hotel do operate a free shuttle every 10mins or so to and from the beach everyday. Also on the Kanta beach they have a snack bar, free sun beds, matresses, parasols, showers and toilets all for the hotel guests to use.
my last review of this hotel was July 09 if you want to check it out
Thank you all very much. I think we are down to AI at Royal Kenz (if Thomascook shop will book it as you cant online with them and Thomsons flight for AI Royal Kenz is bad) or Hotel Kanta HB or SC depending on what the price difference is.
Hi I'm looking to go to Tunisia in october, but havent got a clue about it .I always go to egypt but it's got exspensive. Is it simular to egypt ? I'm looking for AI, nice and peacful ,nice beach within the hotel, as i like a cocktail during the day and just chill out. Alot of the hotels say you have to pay for some bars although your AI. Can anyone help or am i being to fussy and asking for too much? Oh and nice food no cockroaches . Thanks
Hi.Gerty. I would recommend the Riu Imperial Marhaba. It's a great place for a quiet chillout and it is right on it's own private beach. Food is really good and plenty of choice. All inclusive also includes the bar, and at mealtimes it is all on tap in the dining room. In the evening there is, apart from the all inc. drinks in the main seating area there is a very quiet piano bar which is lovely but if you go there the drinks have to be paid for. I never heard any complaints about cockroaches, in fact the rooms are so spotless I'd be very surprised if there were any to be found there. There is also a pool bar and a beach bar, so you do not have to leave the hotel if you do not want to.
Hi Digby thanks ,have looked at that it looks lovely but to be honest it's a bit pricey £850 i'm looking around the £600 mark. Also i have been told that the weather can be dodgy. I'm going end October. Might have to consider egypt but fancy a change.Any thoughts ?
we looked at that hotel too and we couldnt get a good deal for it. Was going to cost us over £1100 for both of us AI, in the end we opted for the Royal Kenz next door HB. We got a great deal through direct holidays for £620 for us both. Have a look at the Royal Kenz, it is been getting fully refurbished.
We stayed there last year and we're going back again this year. We wandered in to the Imperial Marhaba and actually thought our own hotel looked better.
Bellevue also ranks #1 in PEK on tripadvisor.
Sorry, Gerty. It is pricey. We were there in October and got a much better price than that, but the reason we went 5* was that we were given a gift of Thomas Cook vouchers to spend and also because the Riu hotels are usually very good. As it was our first time in Tunisia we were also a bit worriied about the food and cleanliness, so wanted a decent place. We needn't have worried as everything was lovely. Maybe next time we wont be so fussy! By the way, friends of mine stayed at the Royal Kenz at Christmas and had a wonderful holiday.
That hotel does look lovely though and the travel agents in both Thomsons and Thomas cook recommended it and the Royal Kenz . We opted for Royal Kenz in the end.
Are you set on the Sousse / PEK part of Tunisia? If not you could look at the Aziza in Hammamet which offers an AI option. It's directly on the beach and has quite recently had major refurbishment, including the main bar and restaurant and the rooms. When I stayed there I was on half board so am not sure if all bars are included in the AI option - though in many AI hotels (not just in Tunisia) it seems not unusual for only the main bar/s to be included with others especially disco bars needing to be paid for. I can also confirm I've never seen a cockroach at the Aziza!

I have only been to Tunisia once and that was Oct 09, stayed at the Marhaba Palace , and loved every minute of it , the rooms were wonderful , great views from either the front or back of hotel , food couldn't fault at all , the staff from doorman, to receptionists , dining room staff, bar staff , pool staff nothing was too much for them . We were right opposite the Irish pub which i think belongs to the hotel Kanta , 5 minute walk to the harbour . PERFECT. easy access getting to Sousse .
